Voice message on WatchOs 8

Did someone figure out how to send an audio message with watchOS 8?
The new composing interface is horrible, especially if you use two languages. I gave up years ago sending messages with the watch because of the issues with different languages, I was every now and then sending a quick audio. Now the feature seems to be gone too.
Am I missing a step?
I can’t believe they got rid of that

No, and I hate the new way as well. It was very simple before to hit the button. I can't find a setting to change it.

Do you mean the regular audio message where u have the option of tapping on the microphone? If so, after you press on your contact, you will see the box with the word message Tap on that and you should see the microphone.

I mean sending a voice message, an audio, not text

Update: I did a full reset of the watch and now it works. Obviously a bug.

I can't find this at all, I have reset my phone the only options when I tap the microphone are dictation, am I missing something really obvious?

To anyone still wondering how, the audio message option is in the app store icon when you go to type up an imessage on your watch. Should be to the left of the typing bar. In it there is an icon that looks like a few vertical lines of varying length and that is the audio message function.

Absolutely hate this. It’s an extra step now to get to the microphone. This is how I respond to all my texts on the apple watch. I was trying to figure out if there’s a way to change it.

Yeah the old way is much better. Hit a Microphone icon and speak and if you want to send as text, sends as text but if you want to send as audio just hit send. Plain and simple.

SAME! Extra tap to get to the mic is driving me batty!
