iPhone Voice messaging

The voice messaging feature only works with other iPhones? The microphone doesn't appear next to the messaging box when sending messages to non-iPhone users? Is this correct?

Yes, this is an iMessage feature so it only works to iPhones. Not sure but I thought it is also limited to iOS 8.x
