My iPhone 3G and 4S always gave me an alert immediately after I received a voicemail.

Then when I got my 6S it started taking a long time. Sometimes 10 minutes, often even longer.

Now that I have used the iPhone 11 for a few days, I see that the same thing is happening. It takes 10 minutes or so after the voicemail is left for the iPhone to give me the alert telling me that I have a voicemail.

Since I use it for business, I often don't want to take the call right away, but I want to know if they left a voicemail without having to pick it up and check.

I checked all the settings, they seem right. It does alert me with the voicemail beep, but it just takes so long to do it.

Any ideas?

I have the same issue no matter if I am using my personal or work iPhone - Tmobile is bit slower compared to Verizon between the 2 iPhones.

I started using Google Voice to get a 3rd number that people can call me and have my voice mail dictated to me.
That 3rd number assigned by Google Voice is excellent to not have scammers trying to get you.
Instead, the 3rd number is forwarded to your real phone number and screens people before you answer it.
I love it because I can check my text, incoming phone calls, and voicemails from my computer as well as my phone.
It's also a lot faster using Google Voice for text and voicemails.

I have AT&T.

So this is an iPhone/iOS issue? And they haven't been able to fix it in the last 4 years?

The delay appears to be a carrier related issue.
My Verizon iPhone has a couple minutes delay while my T Mobile iPhone has about 15 minutes of delay.

I would contact your carrier: AT&T

My Google voice which is a cloud based phone/text/voicemail system is super quick which is what I like.

Does Google Voice use the same iPhone native Phone app and voicemail client? I figured that would be done in a standalone app.

Does the carrier do something to send the voicemail audible alert? Because when I open my phone 5 minutes after a phone call, I will see the circled "2" on the Phone app icon showing a call and a voicemail. The phone shows the notification visually, but is not doing the audible alert.
