this has never happened (to me) before. i am sitting next to my iphone, and it beeps, to show there's voicemail. there is NO call in 'recents', just a voicemail (an electonic and incomprehensible message about "5 million dollars').

the question is: how do i get a voicemail without a call? i would have thought that that's impossible. anyone else ever experience this?

Do you have any spam call blockers? sometimes they send spam to voicemail without ringing the phone or if reception is bad it will go to voicemail.

If you're in a very remote area with no cell signal, you can still get a call and because the network can't reach your device, the caller is forwarded to your voicemail inbox.

The same applies to anywhere where there's a low cell signal.

ah, that makes sense (altho this is the first time i've experienced it). it must be "No Neighbor". thanx for demystifying that!

Also it appears there's some backdoor methods of gaining a line straight to your voicemail according to various Google results. This has happened to be a few times when I'd get back to civilization and told I was called dozens of times over a weekend but no calls were logged. Sure enough, there were dozens of inane voicemails.

i guess the point is...it's possible. a minor nuisance overall, but still... a nuisance.

I currently use Hiya for spam blocking and at times even my call log shows a call and a voicemail but the phone didn't ring. Once Verizon makes their spam call blocking service free in March (T-Mobile is free now) I'll probably enable that service and stop using Hiya.

I hate calling into my voicemail box, too.

Hmm, I'm a Verizon customer and I've never read about this. Could you link me to something? I remember being using True Caller years ago and it was fishy to me then. Turns out they're a fishy company!

what do you mean, 'call into my voicemail box'????? don't you get your voicemail ON your phone? ATT has a great app, that catches about 90% of spam calls (the phone rings, but the screen shows something like "Suspected Spam"... and No Neighbor is great (for spoofed calls that use the first 6 digits of my number)...
