The purpose of this law supposedly is to reduce the driver's distractions while driving. I wonder how much more distracted a driver is while using a bluetooth headset with poor quality, as opposed to holding the phone to the ear.

Good information! I'm glad what people have been saying about it is probably not all true...as for reducing the number of distractions, it's a horrible idea. Now when I get a call I can't just pick it up, I have to answer, search for my bluetooth headset, fiddle around my ear until its on and use one hand to shove it into my ear so I can hear.

Well, I went ahead and purchased your app. Call it a "donation" to your cause for future improvements. :)

I must admit the voice recognition part is not bad. It hits everything pretty well.

One observation. One of the contacts in my address book is "Home". When I say "Call Home" it tells me there is no number for that contact. I assume it's looking at the selection screen in the app rather than the actual contact address book when you speek "Call Home".

Of course the workaround is to rename my "Home" contact but you might want to write in a subroutine telling the app to search the address book for "Home" when there are no numbers in the app selection screen. Same goes for "Work" etc.

Hi Chris,

Unfortunately Apple currently does not provide the API for access to bluetooth headset audio input. This is why none of the voice dialers have this feature, if it were possible trust me we definitely would have enabled this. As soon as this becomes possible we will release a free update with bluetooth support. The only headset it will work with currently is the earbud headset with inline mic that came with your iPhone (audio input switches automatically to headset when plugged in). Whereas the bluetooth headset audio input currently turns on only after the native phone app is loaded to place the call.

VoiceThis Dialer Update 1.1 available on the App Store

Hello All,

VoiceThis update version 1.1 has finally posted to the App Store as of 9/5. You might all want to give it a try again as we have fixed a ton of the bugs in the first version including optimization for 3g, no crashing, no load issues and new features like calling company names and even non-English character names (french, german, japanese, chinese, etc. ).

Its not perfect albeit there are many improvements still needed but we love to hear everyone's feedback and take all suggestions into consideration for new free updates (every update will be free as long as its on the App Store) so $10 gets you in for life.

Be sure to check out our FAQs with screenshots, new instructional Youtube video, and discussion forum.

Thanks!

Version 1.2 of VoiceThis now available

Hello All,

VoiceThis update version 1.2 has posted to the App Store as of 9/26. One of the major fixes in this version is a much faster load time. After the initial import of contacts, you will see consistent 2-3 second load times even with 2000 contacts. This is on par with the native phone app. That speed coupled with the 1 second voice dialing makes VoiceThis the fastest voice dialer for the iPhone!

We have more updates on the way which include an all new user interface, voice prompts, and more!

Be sure to check out our FAQs and interact with us at our discussion forum at voicethis.com

Thanks!

VoiceThis not VoiceDial

Are you sure you are referring to "VoiceThis", as it does not require recordings voice tags. It sounds like you are talking about VoiceDial by Makayama. Voicethis does not require any training or voice tags to operate.

The new version seems to work OK on my end.

Looking forward to you guys figuring out voice prompts through blutooth. :)

... A lot of users we found also separated contacts already by phone type "John Doe Cell", "John Doe home" etc. so in effect this is already creating the command.

I'd wager most of these folks come from Motorola heritage. The phone book software on those devices could only handle one number per entry, so you had to have multiple address book entries for each additional number. One of the reasons why I rapidly ditched my Motorola v551 all those years ago.

Don't expect your customers to want to do this. It's awful.

You can expect to see a much more streamlined process in future free updates of VoiceThis Dialer. We have every intention of making it so you can call directly by phone type at the get go, not to mention all 100% hands free. Voice prompts are also on the way so stand by.....

Nope, you can't. The restriction of the SDK.

@Developers: I am a native Russian speaker living in Germany. :D I have a lot of international contacts; some of them with very interesting names (I mean pronounciation) :). I would love to test you program, especially if it could provide some kind of logs for you that I could send you for research.

BUT

I do not see any reason to BUY the app BEFORE I am sure it works. On your place I would think about this, at least a couple of minutes. :D

Voice Dialing from ATT

I have been using the Voice Command from ATT ever since I bought the iPhone. Works great and rarely misses. Only drawback, $4.99 mo. But it is worth it. Never touch the phone, simply keep the ATT Voice Command as your last call and use 'redial'. I use it with my Jawbone & Parrot Minikit, which by the way has just introduced a new version. The Minikit Slim, once pared to your phone, downloads all your contacts 'automatically' and uses it's own voice dialing software. I have found the orig to be very clear on both ends, surprisingly for a speaker. 10 hrs talk time.

I've just wasted 7.99 on this app. Must say it's absolute garbage. Pity Apple don't prevent stuff like this in app store on ground of useless non functional rubbish. Must be some way of claiming a refund for stuff like this that clearly doesn't do what it's meant to

Would be very interested in speaking with you further about testing out VoiceThis Voice Dialer to research on Russian and/or other international contacts. Feel free to send an email to support@voicethis.com to discuss this opportunity further.

If you are referring to VoiceThis voice dialer you can simply contact the support staff at support@voicethis.com for #1 receiving assistance so that you can fully understand how to work the application and/or #2 to seek a refund. I understand your frustration, but I am quite confident if you seek help from the developer you will be satisfied with the results.

I have to respectfully disagree that the app is rubbish. Any technology that can do something a human couldn't possibly do, such as locate and dial a contact out of 1000s in 1 seconds time is definitely a step above garbage.

Check out this app

I'm surprised we've not got anything better yet - voice tagging

One of the first apps I found and downloaded was [app]melodis voice dialer[/app] and love it. I don't recall a single time when it has not correctly recognized my voice. Best of all it's FREE!! I've recommended it to several friends and coworkers, so I don't see why anyone would want to pay $9.99 for another voice dial app.

VoiceThis Dialer Tries to Bring Voice Dialing to iPhone

This feature really helps when the hands are busy typing other important things...and you get disgusted using your hands. There should more advancement in this feature true.

So it looks like in version 3.1 of the iPhone software, voice control will be available through bluetooth. Any chance of this app doing the same?

I am now using the voice control built into the 3GS over Bluetooth.

Thanks for writing a great app. It was nice while it lasted.
