Same here. If anyone knows how to use Google Calling on an iPod Touch, please post some instructions :)

Google voice is not voip service. All it does is give you a number and then you attach a phone number to the number from google voice. Whenever the google voice number is called, it will ring your phone.

WOW this thread is kind of sad, why not just get a friggin iphone? droid? evo? Really youre going to carry around your touch an a mifi all day? lol, silliest isht ever

You can't call people silly for not wanting to spend $1,000/year on a phone. It is ridiculous what people are willing to pay for cell phone service.

Regarding Google Voice, you can make phone calls with it, so I would assume that if there's an app for using it on an iPod Touch, it would have VOIP capability. Is that not correct?

If you use google voice to make a call, it will call your phone and the phone you are trying to call and connect the call. I haven't been able to get it to make calls on its own.

I have been using Google Voice to send free SMS all day. I bought a subscription to Skype for unlimited calls to the US and Canada for $8.52 every 3 months. I linked my Google Voice number to Skype for when I make calls the caller ID will show my Google Voice number. I would just get a Skype number in order to receive calls but they are $60/year and text messages are $0.01 each.

Sorry if this is a naive question, but what do those GV apps do then, if they don't allow you to make calls? What is the function of those apps?

And to the person who linked your Google phone with Skype, just to clarify, you can use the Touch wherever you have wifi to make phone calls to any land line, and it shows your Google phone number as the return number, correct?

Thanks.

It's only Google voice on the iphone that doesn't let you make calls. Google voice on android does make phone calls, and uses your data rather than minutes, so it's "free".

If this is brought over to the iphone, then it's a big plus since you can call regular land lines and mobiles for no additional charge, unlike skype or facebook which requires both people to be online at the same time to avoid charges. Until that happens, the google voice apps and webapp for the iphone are just dialers.

Ok so sorry if this question has already been asked but:

This apple peel 520 thing.......so with this u can call people and txt them for FREE anywhere and don't need wifi? I know there are a lot of apps foe iPod touch to make calls but u still need wifi for them to work which in my case is not good enough, wifi is just not widespread or that reliable where I live. So with his peel u don't need wifi right? And its all free? Am I missing something?

I believe you'll need a cell-phone account. The Apple Peel gizmo merely provides cell connectivity to iPods which lack it. The carriers won't let you on without an account. Wish it were so, but they're in the business of making money.
