Looks fairly similar to the myAudi app in terms of content. myAudi generally works OK, but the car is slow to react to lock/unlock commands.
Since I don't drive regularly, I only use myAudi to check in advance whether I need to put gas in the tank before my next jaunt. Otherwise, the key fob gives me as much remote action as I need. And of course, I'm not such a 1st-world wimp that I cannot hop into a cold vehicle or a hot vehicle.

I agree, the software is crap. But I love how the cars drive. As long as I can use CarPlay, which I can, I can deal with the software… not that I don’t wish it were better.

When I got my ID.4, it was pretty much a given I’d end up in another VW (I’ve always liked them), but since I was new to EVs I did all the test driving and research. Tesla’s software is great, sure, but I want a comfortable drive more than raw speed, and nobody beats VW for that, IMO.
Same reason I bought my 2023 ID.4 AWD earlier this year, and it had software v3.5 installed. For what it does, 3.5 works great. No lag, no crashing, no issues. It's not Tesla or Rivian level, but it's easy to use while driving. I do give VW props for actually fixing the awful, early OS quagmire that originally kept me from ever considering a VW EV. Many car makers love to ship and forget, even some of the current EV trendsetters.

VW's mobile app seemed to be losing features for a bit, which was alarming, so Apple Watch support is a pleasant surprise. Aside from faster communication/feedback from the vehicle, what it still needs is a watch face complication or Smart Stack widget for quick access, showing SOC, etc. Widgets on the iOS app would be nice, too. Fingers crossed!

I wouldn't think magically but possibly by some programming. But I doubt that too.

I assume you're implying that my car's remote incapability is due to lack of hardware. That seems unlikely since my car (ID4) is newer and a higher tier model than other VW cars that do have remote lock/unlock. Not including the function is more likely a business decision or something else not totally obvious.
If it didn’t have it from factory and didn’t have it port installed, it isn’t physically installed. They actually did leave out some of the parts.

For example, if you want remote start, it’s an accessory that requires the installation of real missing pieces.

It isn’t like Tesla and BMW who just charge you to turn it on.

I'm surprised and pleased by this news as a VW owner, but I'm doubtful this solves my main wishes for the VW iPhone app, and I assume the VW Watch app by extension, which are:
- to be able to lock/unlock my car remotely (VW includes this function in some cars but not others for no apparent reason)
- to be able to use Siri to open the trunk/hatch door, as well as other functions like turn on and set climate, open/close windows, lock/unlock doors, open/close roof shade

My girlfriend got a new Tiguan last year and I got a new GTI. The app tells is if our doors or locked or unlocked, and we can lock or unlock them remotely. She can start her Tiguan's engine remotely, but I can't start my GTI's engine remotely. So, it depends on the model.

Mine only does this for remote start, not for any of the other functions. Same on the watch.
Mine does it about once a week.

It’s not as bad as the Resideo app that requires the code every time. That is likely because the thermostats are on the guest wifi network so the app thinks I am doing it remotely, but it’s still frustrating.

Model and trim. But you can get an “extended range” remote start and keyfob for nearly every trim which would also enable app based remote start.

My Arteon remote start works from the app but for some reason my key fails most of the time. Worked fine when it was on the Jetta.

True. But shoving your toddler or ancient mother in law into a 125 degree car isn’t always legal…

I’ve found the key fobs to be very finicky as well. Even if you hit the right sequence (lock, remote start button 2x) and confirm that it lights up on the fob, it can be a crapshoot. I default to the app most of the time.

I know this is just a typo, but I do think the concept is hilarious, even if a bit unhygienic
I'm not going to correct/edit the original, because you are right, it's a funny error.

Or, maybe VW is doing a DNA validation of my identity, cause they can figure that out, just not how to let me roll down my windows from the app. 🤣

I pay $15/mo for Kia Connect for my Telluride and the app is terrible and there is no Apple Watch version or any sort of Control Center toggles or widgets to control things. I'm about to cancel it, I think. I mostly use it to cool my car in the summer, although I think you also need it to use CarKey, which is handy.

It's funny, it will alert you that you left your car door unlocked for free, but you have to have the subscription to lock it unless you want to walk all the way back out to your car. Like, Kia told me it costs that much because of the Verizon data plan the Telluride uses, but clearly that data plan is still active when my subscription is not. And my Telluride still emails me diagnostic reports. But receiving a tiny payload to flip a switch costs so much. Right.

I wish they would hire me to design and build out their iOS and Apple Watch apps. I've had the vehicle for two and a half years and it all literally looks the same. They get all this subscription money and don't put any of it back into improving the app. It's just so weird because otherwise it's a great vehicle.
