volume/brightness keys without function

Hey all

all of a sudden I relized that I need to hold down the function button to adjust coume and brightness. How do i make it go back to default where i do not need to hold the fn key?

System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard

Uncheck the "Use the F1-F12 keys to control software features" box
