volume keys response

is there a way to increase the response time of the volume keys on the keyboard? the OS will respond instantly when i press the volume keys; however, the problem is if i continue to hold down on the volume key it will take about two seconds to decrease/increase the volume.

i'm using the bluetooth apple keyboard.

Perhaps adjusting key repeat rate in System Preferences > Keyboard would help?
