Lucky bum owners. Biggest reason I’m probably going to get rid of my ID4 at some point before its time (plus the fob that I’m forced to carry is huge and heavy). That and all the dumb capacitive buttons.
I’ve thought about this problem. I wonder if manufacturers can make a programmable key fob/card that you can program and activate with your phone. It doesn’t do anything until you activate it with an app and you can set it with a unique one time key and includes specified permissions for a specified time period. It can only open certain doors, open all doors and turn on the engine, etc. You could leave it in the car when not in use and activate it for valet, or you could lend it to family or friends who don’t have a phone that supports Car Keys. Not sure what the technical hurdles would be though.
The phone keys are great until you need to valet park your car. This happened at a hospital last year, and wow it was unbelievably aggravating.
Not an issue 99.9999% of the time, of course.
On the good side I accidentally flew home with the BMW key in my pocket, and my sister used her phone key to operate the car until I mailed the real key back.
When I picked-up my EX30 4 weeks ago in the Netherlands there were Chinese stickers on the windows and "Port of Shanghai". I don't think they don't come from China.
And for Car Key. I had it activated last Friday. And overnight my car did not open anymore. Did not react to the normal keys, like the car was frozen due to the new 1.5.2 software.
