Hey everyone, I've been working on a journaling app called VoxThermic. I had an idea that came from my own journaling habits, where I noticed that in my writing, my mood tends to shift a lot over the course of a few days, with lots of ups and downs depending on what's going on in my life. So far I've never seen any journal app that tracks moods and topics over time, so I thought I could try making that myself.
The app uses Apple's Natural Language framework and Foundation Models to analyze journal entries, and there are no third-party AI services involved (because handing over journal entries to some company's data centers sounds like a terrible idea). Everything in the app runs entirely on-device, and can work offline.
I also added voice input features into the app, if only because I find it easier to ramble out loud sometimes instead of just typing.
And I know this is probably a really niche app, but hopefully it's useful to someone besides just me.
A few notes:
- It requires macOS 26.4+ and Apple Silicon because it uses Foundation Models.
- The app and most features are free.
- A few things like summaries and PDF exports are behind a subscription. I'm not sure how many people will find those features useful, but every subscription includes a free trial so you can try everything before deciding.
Also, if you're wondering why the app is weather-themed... I thought it made it a little more fun to use. I had a really minimalist design originally, but it made the app feel kind of bland and a little depressing. 😅 The weather theme might be kind of silly but it makes it nicer to look at, at least to me.
