Was looking a for a good long term backup solution for my iMac. After a recommendation by Fishrrman, I ordered a NewerTech Voyager Q barebones hard drive reader and a 1TB bare bones hard drive.

Got it yesterday and completed my backup, very easy and flexible solution. I wanted to get away from the 'all in one' external hard drive devices.
With the VoyagerQ, I can see making multiple hard drive backups, each stored on separate media and storing them in various locations. Firewire 800 was very fast. Used Carbon Copy Cloner.

For $140...a great solution. Each additional drive will be a smaller incremental cost.

Agreed, got one at work for backups and data recovery from client machines. Very nice external device.

Better Backup

I use the same but I rotate disks. One of them lives offsite all of the time. (In the car in a padded case which isn't ideal but convenient enough to get done).

It seems about as reliable as I can think of.

Original on disk.
Daily backup on bare drive in Voyager Q
Previous weeks backup offsite.
