I'm having the same issue as the O.P. I can't seem to get the Cisco VPN to connect to my work computer/Network.

I'm using Leopard and Boot Camp w/Vista. I can boot to Vista and use Cisco VPN to connect to my work Network just fine. I then use Ultra VNC to view my work PC Desktop and things are great.

I would rather not boot to Vista and be able to do the same from Leopard. I installed Cisco VPN .80 and Using the same settings as on the Vista side I'm not able to connect.

It's frustrating, I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me out a little bit.

TIA

Did you copy the profiles over from vista to Mac OS. That should do

Yes, i tried that and I'm still not able to connect. Thanks for the reply but I'm still stuck.

You are using the Cisco VPN Client right?? . If yes, there is no way that should fail...

Did you pick up the .PCF file from "C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\VPN Client\Profiles" folder?

That is the default location. Just take that pcf file and copy it into the profiles location of the Cisco VPN in your mac..

When I get home tonight I will give that a try. I'll post my results after.

Thanks

That did the trick, I can now connect just fine.

My next question?

What is the best way to view my computer now that I have connected using the Cisco VPN?

Does Mac OS X have a built in viewer?

Leopard has built-in VNC, but if I were you, I'd download "remote desktop client for Mac" from Microsoft, instead of running a VNC server on at your work machine. Make sure you have enabled your work computer to allow remote connections.

The Microsoft RDC does not allow me to connect. i enter the user name and password along with the local client machine address and I'm not able to connect.

Where is the built in Mac client located at?

OK, This is easy. The Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection client is the better tool.

Make sure that the domain name is the domain of your company(by default, I think the RDC for the Mac puts in the host name as the domain name)
Also when you say address, do you mean the IP address?

Also, I forgot, what version of WIndows does your company PC have?
Have you enabled remote connection/remote access??
If you dont know how to do it, you should ask your company folks to help you out on that.
I think you have to start the remote desktop access service from Windows Services. By default, In XP Professional and Vista Business(My Favorite Vista Flavor) , those options are enabled by default.

Let me re-cap what I have done maybe that will help?

I am using Cisco VPN 4.9.01 (0080). I am able to connect to my works network.

When I open RDC Beta for Mac it asks for the Computers i.p address. I enter the i.p addres of my PC at work. the next window that opens asks for my user name, password and already has my work PC's i.p address entered (from prior screen). This is when it fails to connect.

I'm only guessing that i should be entering my Work PC's i.p address in the last part?

When i use Boot Camp and use Vista this is what i use to connect. The connections all work just fine using Vista just not the Mac side.

If i can get this to work on OS X, I will no longer need Windows and that is my goal.

Thanks,

The domain name should be your work domain - Not the IP address of the machine that you are trying to connect to. For example , if I work for a company x , whose domain name is XX and my workmachine's IP address is 1.2.3.4, while entering the user id and password and domain information(the third text box), you should enter your company domain name XX and not your ip address.

An update of sorts?

I used Cisco VPN (above) after logging in used Safari to gain access to my PC Desktop. Seems all I had to do is enter h ttp://xx.xxx.x.xxx:port (my PC address). It works pretty good. It's a bit on the slow side but works well enough to be productive.

Thanks to those who helped me along the way. Now i no longer need Vista.

Has anyone gotten the Aventail Connect Client to work? I'm using version 10.0.3 and it just crashes on launch (although it started up properly before a re-install but never made a connection).

Some more on Mac to Windows RDC

I have set up a Windows server at the office 2008 R2SP1 with remote login and a dozen remote CALs.
I can connect remotely from my home using Win7, Mac Mini, and my iPad.
A friend with a iMac 27" cannot connect using MS Remote Desktop.
My WiFi-only-iPad will connect from her house just fine. via her home WiFi
I have tried username in the form server\user but still get the message that there is a security problem and I need to contact the Windows Server Administrator (me). My home network is 192.168.x.x My friends is 10.0.x.x. I can't see any reason why the iPad will work but her iMac won't.
