I have been trying to connect to my hospital internet through a VPN but our IT people do not want to work with an iPod Touch. They do give Mac’s a way to connect with the VPN. If a Mac can connect can I use the same process to connect my iPod Touch?

At work, I can access the protected wireless network with my user name and password with my iPod Touch. Of course, I have an already established account. Maybe that's all you need?

Most likely. It depends on the type of VPN they use. Is special software installed on the Mac, or is it compatible with Macs built in VPN protocols? The easiest way to go about this would be to actually set up a mac, then copy the working settings to the iPod Touch.

I'm making an assumption that the iPod Touch has the same VPN capabilities as the iPhone. I'm not really sure of that. Go to settings->General->Network->VPN->Add a VPN Configuration and see what's there.
