So iTunes Store has the movie "The Dark Tower" in 4K Dolby Vision to buy for $19.99. I see the same movie at Vudu for $9.99 in what it calls HDX (what is that?). I purchase with Vudu because it costs less but I'm thinking it won't be as beautiful as Dolby Vision. After I purchased from Vudu, I went to iTunes Movie app on ATV 4k and the move was there under Purchased! Oh it's there in Dolby Vision! I'm guessing this occurred because I both iTunes and Vudu are within my Movies Anywhere account?

Because of movies anywhere. It used to be Disney movies anywhere but Disney made a deal with other publishers and they are now included. Not every movie but a lot can now be shared across multiple digital platforms now which includes Amazon, iTunes, vudu, Google and some others.

Ok you are right about not all movies. I saw 3 more movies that are $10 less on Vudu than iTunes Store. I purchased both on Vudu but only one of them is showing as purchased in iTunes. The two that do not appear are a 2-movie bundle. I'm guessing bundles aren't available across platforms?
Nonetheless, the bundle plays in Dolby Vision when I watch through the Apple TV using the Movies Anywhere app.

With vudu I think they are still 2 separate movies in a bundle. If one is supported I don't see why not? I can be wrong though. Maybe it could be because it is a bundle though

This is too cool!! From here on, I will always check other platforms before paying the big bucks to iTunes!

I just read on Vudu site that HDX is only 1080p. So I purchased a 1080p movie at Vudu and the Apple TV 4k upscaled it to HDR! That is just simply marvelous!!

Have you actually tried playing the movie? So far, movies ported in from other providers via Movies Anywhere don't actually play in 4K even if they display the 4K badge in the Purchased section. If you pull down the info sheet while playing them (or enable the developer HUD), it shows that they only play in HD.

Actually if you bought it on Vudu at 1080p and it's on iTunes it would be 1080p. But then since Apple now makes all your HD movies into 4k it would be a 4k movie if it's avaliable in 4k

Nope. It only does that if the movie was purchased or redeemed directly in iTunes.

Oh Sugar Honey Ice Tea! You are correct. When I pulled down the info sheet it says HD. However the OLED is making it look super beautiful LOL. So the cheaper price is worth the sacrifice.

Yes, that is possible. It can play movies in 1080p but with HDR.

Ok Spiderman is $12.99 on iTunes with 4K Dolby Vision. Vudu has it at $9.99 in UHD (High Dynamic Range). So will it show in Dolby Vision on Apple TV if I buy Vudu platform?

Yes, if you buy the UHD version on Vudu it should port to iTunes in 4k.

Yep you are right. It indeed imported as Dolby Vision (I pulled down the info sheet this time). So I saved $3 bucks and a lifetime of rental fees as this movie is one of my grandkid's favorites.. Thanks!
