Anyone else experience slow MDI interface with an iPod in a VW/Audi? For reference, 2013 Golf R with RNS 315 nav head unit. Whether I had a 160GB old iPod hooked up with the 30-pin MDI or a latest gen iPod Nano 16GB with Lightning, sometimes it takes up to 20 seconds to navigate forward and back one level (Up, Up, etc.)

The SD card slot is way faster.

I have a 2013 VW with the RCD 500 head unit hooked up to my iPod Classic. Navigating doesn't take much time, but there are other issues. On a 160GB device, music selection takes forever since you can't search. If you skip too many tracks forward you will get ahead of how fast the iPod can seek, effectively crashing it. The only way to fix that is to disconnect it and reconnect it or turn the car off and on.

Yeah I've had that happen a few times. Indexing takes forever, and even sometimes on the 16GB Nano it takes a while to navigate directories. I prefer to drag'n'drop with iTunes for my favorite tracks but I may just go back to an SD card for that and streaming from my iPhone.

I find bluetooth to sound close enough that the convenience outweighs the sound quality most of the time. Being able to activate siri and tell it what to play is much safer and easier than figuring out how to find a song at 80mph

2014 GTI. Yep, sucks. Gave up the iPod for the SD. It's lightening fast and can hold what I want. Only takes minutes to load a card up with what I want.
