VW-Apple-Wallet-Car-Key-Mock.jpg
Volkswagen is planning to offer Apple Wallet car keys in future vehicles, according to new server-side Apple code.

The code does not provide any more details, so we do not know which VW vehicle models will offer the feature or when.

With an Apple Wallet car key, you can use your iPhone or Apple Watch to lock, unlock, and start your vehicle. The feature is already offered by Audi, BMW, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and select other automakers in various countries.

Don't trust code leaks as a sign of upcoming support. Same code was found in Lexus and no announcement months later. And I think the only Toyota that got it post-code discovery was the RAV4 and that was only with an extra subscription. There's a difference between "planning" to do something and just "testing."

Pretty sure it's already been announced as coming for model year 2027 Id. series and co in software 6.1

How are people getting access to server side Apple code to begin with?

Ahem, since you are in there, any ideas when Phoenix will be getting DCE maps, and transit card support? 😛

This is a nice feature. I have it on my '26 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid AWD. I can leave my key at home and just use my iPhone and/or Watch to open and start the car. I can also share the key if I need to. It's a handy feature when I haul my bicycle to remote group rides, since I don't have to reserve space in my jersey pocket for a large key fob while I ride.

This has been added to the new year Skoda Enyaq and Elroq models so VAG group are intending to use it

No, but we should ditch GM because of their shoddy products.
Ditching Apple CarPlay and Android to go with their own proprietary solution is enough of a deal-breaker for me to avoid GM vehicles altogether.

Hyundai – OTOH – says they will adopt CarPlay Ultra although I'm not sure if they'll make it backward compatible to my '26 Palisade (via a firmware update).

Selling cars. Same thing that every auto maker has ever done. GM, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz and Renault have all provided vehicles to the military. Should we ditch GM because they supplied vehicles for the war in Iraq? It is possible to buy a company's products and not approve of the things they may have been used for.
agreed, no one cares about that dumb comment... someone just triggered about nothing.

You mean to tell me that the company that was including 3G connectivity in their new vehicles during the tail-end of the LTE era is launching this feature?

Groundbreaking stuff. VW is finally planning to offer Apple Digital Car Keys…a feature my 2018 BMW 420i had years ago. Innovation clearly moves at different speeds. Better late than never, I suppose.

Shame it isn't retroactive, I should be picking up a Cupra Tavascan in a couple of weeks...

It would be nice if the VW everybody, which is currently under development, had this; it would be an unusually attractive attention marker and would be more likely to be noticed there (and thus support the VW brand) than in their higher-priced cars.
