Whom here is a big fan of Wagyu Beef? :D I am a fan and used to spend quite a bit in Asia on Wagyu Beef. Adds up quickly but really good beef. See video below

Japan has some really good Teppanyaki restaurants while my city seems to be stuck with Benihanao_O

I’ve only had American Wagyu. Not impressed.

I think it depends on where it was raised and came from. Some Wagyu from the US is not bad but others tastes a bit bland. I had some really good Wagyu in Taiwan before which comes in from Australia. I was really impressed at how good it was. When US Beef was banned from being imported into Taiwan Costco was importing Australian Wagyu which was really good.

Is this the beef where the cattle is groomed before market?

It was from Snake River Farms and RR

I’m not too familiar but from my experimentation I don’t think there’s much to American Wagyu. It is not superior in marbling and wouldn’t know if there’s some digestive benefit. I rarely buy steak in a restaurant but definitely would not waste money ordering it there. If I make it to Japan one day I’ll likely try it there.

I have had Snake River Farms quite a few times. Quite often it seems bland in taste. The marveling is there but that actual taste of the meat seems to be a hit or a miss. Here locally in California some of the Asian supermarkets like H Mart sell it. If you go to Japan try their Teppanyaki restaurants that have it or their Shabu Shabu restaurants. I pass on going to restaurants in the US for steak as I can buy my own and make it at home. Try to keep restaurants for stuff I can't make at home.

I have had it many ago in Japan and recently in Australia, both are worth the expense. We need a treat every so often.

Completely agree.

After a stint in a rough spot, nothing appeals like a meal in a really good restaurant, or similar treats.

I have never had Wagyu beef, but would most certainly try it if I was in a country (such as Japan) where this is considered a culinary tradition.

Now that is laced with fat. I wonder if this is how this meat normally appears or is there a method of raising these cattle to make it appear so?

its meant to be like that, the cow is raised like your typical pot bellied couch potato, they give the cow all the food it wants, beer, massages etc. The cow is pampered to death, made to walk as little as possible, grass is brought to the cow so it doesn't need to roam around grazing.

This is literally the first time I've seen this expression where it's accurate to take it literally.

I have had it twice. Very tasty. However, I recently read that there are numerous food stores and restaurants (not sure in which countries) which are selling inferior beef as wagyu and charging wagyu prices. Shameful.

I have had it in a very expensive Japanese restaurant and I cannot say that I was impressed by it. A good Argentinian beef is much better for me. Nothing special. Too much hype for nothing..

Oh, so it is like raising veal.

Veal though does not have any marbling in it. I like veal but I would imagine it would be even better if there was a Wagyu version of it :D

Cows eat a lot everyday and if one was to feed it good food it would be very expensive to feed.

That sounds like Kobe. While all Kobe is Wagyu not all Wagyu is Kobe.

I've had A11 Wagyu a handful of times. There's truly nothing in the world like it.

A11 is not a true grade. A5 is the best. Of course everyone knows Kobe beef, but Miayazaki is supposedly the wagyu capital. I eat it in small quantities about once a week.
