You totally want to wait for the iPhone 6 or 7, the 5 is just going to be a bit faster than the 4-s.

Wait for iPhone 5? or get iPhone 4S

If you have the means get a 4S now. When iPhone 5 comes out the battery will be horrible, all the cool advertised feratures will not be working properly, and you will spend all your free time on this site asking other frustrated iPhone 5 owners how to get the phone to work. Just get the 4S. By the time they work out all the iPhone 5 bugs your contract will be eligible for upgrade again.
Iphone 5 is in the work for a long time now (Steve Jobs was involved in it). I don't expect too many bugs as you said...

I say buy now! Two reasons.
1) I like spending other peoples money.
2) Your not old enough to make your own decision so I'm making it for you!

My mother wanted to wait for the 5. I got the 4S in November. She's STILL waiting.
With technology, there's always going to be a better one coming out. We'd spend most of our time waiting for the next. Bite the bullet. If you want an iPhone, get it now.

Save your money unless you really need a new phone.
Integrated with your macbook pro is a bit of a meh. I don't miss going the other direction at all from iphone to android. Since previously I synced my stuff up with my gmail account anyhow. The iphone integrates with my mbp and imac in that I sometime plugged it into those machines to charge lol.
What I wanted to say is save your money and spend it how other college kids do. Like go on trips with some friends. Buy a camera for those trips and take some photos. The memories are going to last a life time, a phone isn't.

I'd buy now, if you want the iPhone 5 that bad when it is released buy it at full price then sell your iPhone 4s. By the time you sell the 4s you should be somewhere near what a upgrade price would be for the 5 give or take. Thats what my plan is and always is if I'm not eligible for upgrade.
Do what you want. It's just a phone.

Good decision. Why sit around and wait for the next phone when the 4S is a nice phone.

The 4S is like the finalized version of the iPhone. The next revision of the iPhone will have added bells and whistles but will have the definitive version the following year.
My philosophy now is to get the "S" line of the iPhone and settle on that until the next one comes out.
In short, get the 4S now. You'll be happy (if you're coming from android and like to tweak, jailbreaking opens a wealth of new features)

This is what I tell everyone who is going to buy an iPhone and just upgrade every two years. You definitely want to be on the S cycle.
Get it now. The new iPhone won't be out until fall and that's an eternity to wait for the phone you want when you could get it now. And like everybody always likes to point out, the iPhone has kick ass resale value, so even if you choose to buy the next iPhone, you could still buy it at a sort-of discount by selling your 4s and paying the difference.
Wait! I had iPhone 4S for few weeks, then returned it. I didn't like the 4S. You can't transfer files and pictures via bluetooth, Apple blocked it on the iPhone. I can do that easily on my Nokia N95.

Well, when are you going to college? If it's going to be in the Fall, wait for the 5. Remember, if you get the 4S, you're going to have to sign a 2 year contract....and keep it until the 5S comes out!
I am getting the 4S this week. I thought about waiting but as others have said why chase the rainbow. There will always be a better one in a years time. I a glad that having the 3GS now I am on the S cycle as they seems to iron out a lot of the bugs in the phone in the previous phone, like with the 3G being slow compared to the 3GS and anntena problems with the 4.
