Feels like you're trying to prove something to yourself, look, if you want to stick with your 4S, stick with it and leave us alone.

Exactly. I was going to say the same thing. He's either unable or unwilling to spend the money to upgrade. He tries to convince himself that there's no difference but he's failing. We can all see the big differences and so can he. I feel sorry for him so I'm not going to say anymore.

OP, just tell yourself what you need to get you through the night, buddy, you don't need our approval. We're just strangers on the Internet.

LTE isn't available on the 4s. And if you're going to try and make the point that LTE isn't a new feature because the 4s already had data, then you might as well just end the thread here.
The M7 co-processor counting footsteps/etc isn't available on the 4s.
The extra data that fits on the bigger screen isn't available on the 4s.

Amen. Starts a thread about the 4s being too similar to the 5s, then complains "Why does everyone who has and iPhone 5, 5c, and 5s have to put down the 4s to feel better about their iPhone." when people start pointing out the differences.

yeah haha it's kind of weird

Now you've switched to putting people down instead. I have a 5c I know the difference.

LTE is just faster data so it isn't much different.

Why can't you just help me decide if waiting for the 6 is a good idea?

All the iPhone 6 is going to be is "bigger" with faster versions of the features that your iPhone 4s already has.

You've clearly stated that both "bigger" and "faster versions of existing features" don't count.

So using your logic, the iPhone 6 will be just as "too similar" to your iPhone 4s as the iPhone 5s is.

So what's the holdup in your decision making process?

Haha oh my god you totally got him there

If you can't see the difference between the 4S and 5S, how could we tell you to wait for the next iphone?

iPhone 6 is supposed to have a health sensor and a wider screen. What do you think about that?

Also, if I acted in a normal manner before no one would respond so I had to act defensive for someone to reply.

iPhone 5s has a motion co-processor that counts footsteps (even when the phone is turned off). You discounted that. The iPhone 5s has a taller screen. You discounted that.

If neither of those caught your eye, then I don't think another sensor (health?) or a wider screen would be worth the wait for you.

And with that, good night. I'm unsubscribing from your train wreck of a thread.

I'm totally excited to see it, as excited as when the 4S was announced and so on

People are always going to reply, this is Macrumours, the biggest and nicest apple community.

The iPhone 5s features the M7 co-processor which is designed for things like counting steps instead of using the accelerometer. You could count steps on earlier iPhones also and yes the screen is .5 inches bigger. But some people complain that it reduces one handed use.

Imagine how 4.7 inch is going to reduce one handed uses

I don't mind about one handed use I prefer to have more screen space.

You can say that about any tech. My girlfriend's HTC ONE M8 absolutely slays my iPhone 5 in most areas and it's the latest tech. Soon something will come along to slay that.
The 5S is only halfway through its life cycle, so I wouldn't say that it should be disregarded. If the i6 was out in 6-8 weeks then I would agree with you to hold on, but 6 months?

True, but the rumored 4.7" screen could be worth waiting for. Personally, I would wait for the redesign since it will last 2 years. I'm not disregarding the power of the iP5S, I just like to have the latest design because I keep my phones for a long time. Of course, we don't know what Apple is planning, so it's entirely up to the OP.

So this is purely just about looking for completely new things that haven't been on an iPhone before then? Not about actual useful hardware improvements in every version of the iPhone? I guess since the iPhones made calls, texted, had a camera, had a touchscreen, etc., not much changed from the first iPhone to iPhone 4S either in that respect. Right?

4S is a very capable device still. I'm very happy using iOs 7.1 on it except for the battery life. I wouldn't go far as saying there aren't any differences between the 4S and the 5S, but the differences are mostly trivial and nothing killer that would urge someone for an update.

- That extra one second the fastness will bring me is trivial.
- I like the design of the 4S and an extra 0.5" wouldn't add anything extra.
- 4S' camera is great, real world difference between 5S and 4S cameras aren't that much.
- I don't have LTE in my country anyway so LTE isn't even a feature for me, yet.
- Thinner, lighter, again, nothing major, trivial.
- Can still run the latest OS without breaking a sweat and with all the features except TouchID, True Tone flash, Airdrop and Burst Mode, all of which are trivial I think.

But if you look at the differences between 3GS and 4 for example; front facing camera which is pretty important. Or a new non-plastic all glass design. Flash for the camera.
Between 3G and 3GS, ability to shoot video.

Usually, S models have longer life spans because of the better internals. Apple makes incremental internal upgrades with design changes but makes the insides great with S models so they tend to stick around longer. For example my friend just recently bought a 5S and he had a 3GS. Also, look at iPhone 4 and iOS 7.1. It struggles, barely works and has lots of lag.

I'll definitely get iPhone 6 when it comes out though.

Or even wait for the iPhone 7? ;)

This is one thing that I don't understand. Honestly we can't tell the OP what to do, but it seemed as though the OP had his mind made up before posting.

Here's what I know. The iPhone 5s is a monster. The A7 is an entirely different beast than the A6 was and the A6 was no slouch. Now the question is the A8. Apple has already went 64-bit and honestly just needs more RAM instead of another chip. So is the iPhone 6 going to have more RAM?

The screen may be bigger
May have more RAM
Will ship with iOS 8.

What else?

I guess what I'm saying is that were only halfway through the 5S first year. If it were 3 or 4 weeks I think the answer could be wait, but 5-6 months away and the 5S is still a great choice IMO

Why do these internet inbreeds even start these topics?

Look it is an easy solution: Follow carefully

1. Wait for the 6 to come out
2. Go to your local store, try it in hand side by side with your old device.

If at that time you like it ?

3. Purchase it, you usually have 14 days (and a restocking fee)
to determine if it is for you..

This is the most sensible answer take the advice

I'm still happy with my 4s, I know the 5/5s have more advanced hardware but I HATE the long skinny screen. Unfortunately I'll need a new phone before the third quarter so I can't hold out for the 6 which I expect (hope?) will be lovely. For me the question will be whether it's going to be good enough to tempt me back from either the Galaxy s5 or One M8 which are the phones I'm tempted by.

Whats wrong with you? You have some serious issues! People tried to help you and you blatantly ignored them and now you justify yourself? Are you mad?
