I’m looking forward to M4 MacBook Pros arriving this fall. But just to toss out a total curveball, I’m curious what you guys think of the gaming focused ASUS - ROG Zephyrus G14 14" OLED 3K 120Hz Gaming Laptop?

I saw Best Buy has a flash sale for $1,599 configured with AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS - 32GB LPDDR5X - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 - 1TB SSD - in Platinum White.

Obviously the G14 battery life will be a fraction of the upcoming MBP. Otherwise, the G14 hardware specs are kinda head-turning.

If it does not run iOS I would never consider it. As we slide into a recession, the cost of computers will drop even more.

there
I was going to get an ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED New Zen ponder blue with AI in early June
because that notebook can perform as well as my MacBook Air 2020 M1 and more.
the notebook looks great, received many great reviews and is fast!
the price is reasonable, starting at $US 1299 which is a bit more but Asus offers more than Dell or HP
and probably makes a better notebook.

as far a the expected deflation era looming, i don't buy into that
since most companies wont lower a price
when humans are already overpaying for things today!

Not an answer, just more questions...

If you're gaming, go for the Window laptop... or get a console. While Apple Silicon improved gaming performance on Mac, the majority of games are not released on Mac.

If outside of gaming, which M4 MBP are you thinking of? What applications are you using? What support does ROG typically give their hardware? How long do they tend to last? We know Apple machines get years of support and typically last well beyond that support window.

Just in terms of CPU power, we have no Mac benchmarks for the M4 processors yet. Looking at Geekbench M2 iPad vs. M2 Macs, the iOS scores are comparable, so it seems that iOS scores are valid for comparison. M4 single-core scores are higher than the AMD CPU, and multicore scores are a draw... but that's the BASE M4. If you were thinking of an M4 Pro, or M4 Max, the Mac will likely trounce the Windows laptop.

Really all depends on what you're going to use the computer for.

MBP if you really want macOS.
Zephyrus if you want to play games or need to use CUDA cores for anything particular.

I owned a Zephyrus G15 2022, its a fantastic machine but I since built a desktop PC and got a macbook pro. The laptop itself is ok, but the jet engine everytime you do something even if you make a custom fan curve was disgusting imo.
