Let me be clear, I like the iPhone X. What I don’t like is the lack of app support. Nearly 5 months later and I still have numerous apps that have not been updated to work with the X’s display properly. One of these app’s is Vudu. I use my phone quite a bit for media and presently, any movie played with the Vudu app displays at an iPhone 4 size. Totally unacceptable. At least YouTube and Netflix added the ability to zoom to fill. Anyone else facing similar issues?

Are you asking if the same apps you use appear differently on other people’s phones...?

I use my phone quite a bit for media

If you use your phone frequently for media, it should have been fairly obvious that no media anywhere on Earth has ever been created in this shape, and I'm guessing it never will.

Why don't you just set up Movies Anywhere and log into your Vudu account? Connect a Google or iTunes account and you can access most of your movies through all three platforms. Probably not all movies, but a significant portion should work through this method.

The an un optimized app is viewed on the X the screen is equivalent (if not a hair larger) to an iPhone 6/7/8

all the main apps have been updated for me. only sky go ugh that have yet to be updated.

Most of the apps I use daily are updated at this point, though I agree on video. Netflix dealt with it best by creating a minimum amount of bezel around wide angle content--just enough to exclude the notch and not more.

A lot of other shows I watch have a narrow aspect ratio in any case and there would be black bars on either side anyway. I'm sure vudu will get updated eventually.

The notch is the worst design decision Apple has made on an iPhone in my opinion, but I otherwise really enjoy it.

My gripe is more about mainstream app’s that display video as a primary function not being optimized for the X. I’m not talking about the notch. I am just saying these apps should be updated to at least fill the screen like Netflix. After all, the X is a $1k phone, would be nice if apple provided some kind of incentive for developers to make use of the new tech.

I have no problem accessing my media libraries, it’s the viewing part that stinks.

Maybe you don't understand why I suggested you use Movies Anywhere. If you connect your Vudu account and one other account to Movies Anywhere you can use another app to view those movies. With Movies anywhere you can use the Amazon, YouTube app or the iTunes app to view your movies in Vudu. At least a good portion of them... And those apps HAVE been optimized unlike the Vudu app.

I get it, you want native Vudu support but until then, at least you can watch your movies unhindered,

I went from an iPhone 7 Plus to a X.

I hate the smaller screen and feel.

I love the functionality of the X... but I hate they didn’t realease an X Plus in 2017 at the same time.

I know what you mean, OP. Probably 97% of my apps have been updated but that one tiny app called TechCrunch hasn't and it drives me crazy - it looks so aweful. I already offered them to update their code for free (it really isn't that big of a deal). They didn't seem to care (not that I expected anything else).

CLearly you won't here when Apple released the iPhone 4....

Your correct, I didn't understand your post at that detail. I downloaded Movies Anywhere and connected all of my accounts. The Movies Anywhere App doesn't display video correctly either, but, I haven't tried the other suggestions. I will try that now.

Just log into youtube and look at your movies. It should list at least some of your purchases after you have connected Vudu to Movies Anywhere

Please. don't change the discussion. @OP has a realistic problem and obviously wasn't commenting on the notch.

@Vermifuge - The OP specifically focussed on media apps, so my post was bang on subject. Ironically, YOU are the only person who mentioned the notch. I merely showed how the shape of the X screen is not ideal for media consumption.

A phone itself is not ideal for media consumption if we are going to go there. It’s just convenient. How many 6” TVs are selling these days? If the curved edges are an issue for someone, a slightly smaller zoomed out view is an option. And if you’re watching a video and find the zoomed out view is too small, move the phone closer to your face.

I think the only media app I have at the moment which isn’t optimised is Virgin TV Go and you certainly notice it. The rest, Netflix, Amazon and so on are all updated for the X and it’s a much nicer experience than the boxed-in view of non-optimised apps.

I’m sure in time all of the major apps will be updated, it’s in their interest particularly if you pay an ongoing subscription. Smaller studios or indie apps could take longer to be updated, if at all, as they’ve often less time and financial motivation to do it.

As for people mentioning the Notch. I’m kind of glad it’s there for media viewing, gives me somewhere to rest my big fat thumb :D

Convenience is what drives us... beasically because it fill is a need.
