I have Samsung TV model S95B and it’s a great tv except it lacks Dolby Vision. Ok so we know a few things:
- Samsung owners can only get this similar experience with HDR10+
- Very few contents is available in HDR10+ but it seems to be changing with streaming industry with ATV+ app increasing support for HDR10+ and Prime Video backing it up in parallel with DV
- still DV has huge upper hand in streaming and 4K Blue ray
- some DV content on ATV+ gets converted to HDR10+ when playing (like Mythic Quest series) and some to regular HDR10 (Alita).
I have ATV4K 2gen (2021) I purchased after it came out.
Then rumors came Apple was going to roll out support for HDR10+ with TV OS 16 but as of now it’s available only in the 3rd gen 2022. I really like my older base ATV with built-in thread and Ethernet port. I don’t have need for a bigger storage.
However Apple dropped on us surprise when it released this feature only for its freshly released ATV this year.
I am on a fence between upgrading or keep my older ATV with a hope Apple will add this support in later TvOS releases.
