I'm sorry. I just noticed that I could never get an accurate lock on my 3G, but my 3GS worked perfectly. However, on my 3G 2.2.1, GPS worked decently.

The behavior of one iPhone may not resemble the behavior of all iPhones.

Wow are you in the wrong place! See when someone posts something that has been general knowledge for over a year, (the 3G has GPS and thus we knew the new model would too), and in fact is mentioned in several ads for the iphone and on the iphone page on Apple's website you are gonna get snarky but humorous replies.

Besides, the only question you asked was answered in the 8th reply.
