Waiting for 12-inch mbpro, will it ever come?

No, there is a very thin line between the MacBooks and the 15" MacBook Pro. A 12 or 13-inch MBP will take sales away from the MacBooks, and Apple definitely doesn't want that. However, an ultra-portable is possible.

I believe that apple will come out with a very light weight laptop with a core solo derived from the core 2 duo line with the integrated graphics card. and after doing that, they will update the MacBook with a very small 32-64mb graphics card. maybe even a 128mb. so then they will have a REAL entry level laptop and then have the MacBook line with the MacBook Pro line trumping them all. Then apple will cover all the bases and have a laptop that is much like the Mini as an entry level for people to start the obsession with Macs. The MacBook will have every thing a midrange laptop should. Then it would truly be the new 12" PB. And the Pro will have absolutely everything with dedicated graphics, big screens, and fast processors. Don’t know if they'll do it, but it would be a great idea.

i really need a small latop which can run FCP. i dont mind integrated graphics as such since i dont game but apple's pro apps require dedicated card. makes me a little angry that since the arrival of the new motherboards we also received a dividing line when it comes to application usage.

the bottom line is that as a pro user i dont want to be a pro wrestler too, just to carry my equipment around. for i can live w/ the last revision 12PB but really hope that in 1 or 2 yrs time i can upgrade as a happy chap..

I am in the same boat as you but my 12" powerbook has been stolen. So, there are no computers available that I'm interested in... I'm locked into apple's whims because of a very expensive piece of software I bought.

On top of that, they have removed a feature (fw800) that I found appealing in the powerbook 15 and it's enough to make me not want a 15 just because I'm mad.

I went from a 12in ibook to a 15in macbook pro and could not be happier. When looking at my ibook screen I keep thinking I was using and looking at that dull, small screen for more than a year and half. It is a refreshing change and its size and weight isn't too much of an issue at all.

This made me laugh. Exactly how I feel.

I've been watching these threads because I know I will be getting a laptop end of aug/sept for campus trekking. I have unlimited use of a 15" Powerbook now, but it's not mine, and I find it a bit of a chore to carry around with all my other crap (a lot of it!). Not just weight, so much as size. BUT, my main work aside from simple wordprocessing, will be web design (meaning work with photoshop or fireworks) and a little touching up of video clips in FCP. Macbooks don't sound like they're quite up to the chore... S'pose I could look for a used 12" PB. They show up now and again as refurbs.
