Waiting for 2021 MBP

The notch doesn't phase me but "thick and heavy" leak certainly does. If the computers end up being thicker and heavier than the 2015 Macbook Pro putting in an BTO order on the 13" M1 Macbook Pro doesn't seem out of the question but would be a shame after waiting this long for a device. However those clamouring for a "real pro device" are probably going to be very happy. Im hoping Apple surprises us though and gives true performance in a sleek device but there is no knowing until about 16 hours from now.

"thicker" here probably doesn't mean much thicker than the pre-touchbar MacBook Pros which were decently thin compared to much of the competition anyway. I wouldn't concern yourself too much over the "thick and heavy" statement because it's probably relative to the ridiculous thinness on the current MBP line which requires throttling due to a focus on thinness over heat management. IMO the current MBPs should never have been this thin in the first place if it meant a large performance decrease.

hope the rumours of the Notch prove baseless, and are simply anti-leak FUD from Apple. There will just be too many unexpected times where a UI not regulated directly by Apple will have usability issues. Full-screen apps, anything in Linux or Windows, etc. I'd be quite content with no rounded corners either, however I'm hoping the 74 ghost pixel rows are because of rounded corners, and not a notch.

As long as the notch is hidden with a black strip bar at the top and we still get a 16:10 display. I really don't care at all.
I am sure Apple or the reviewers will show how it works with macOS if its going to be there on the MBP.

It may be awesome, but I am also crossing my fingers for:

A 4k Mini Led Display with slimmer bazels. I can live with the notch
100hz Pro Motion, I really doubt it will make its presence this year. But fingers crossed
16 gb ram & 512ssd for base , 32gb ram & 1 tb ssd in the highest model
More Ports SD card & HDMI port
MagSafe charging, god knows how much I missed it.

I am also looking forward to the end of the Touch Bar.

Since Apple is adding more CPU and GPU cores, its just basic physics that more heat will be generated.

I think the 14" MBP will be great for travelling.

The 16" not so much, the current 16" Intel MBP is too bulky to be carried around. The 16" is a mobile workstation that is meant be carried occasionally.

I'm not completely behind the thicker and heavier rumour as depending on the balance between performance and aesthetics Apple would risk alienating the mainstream consumer. I'm not really sure Apple would risk losing that market by making the device overly cumbersome to use especially as analysts are expecting this device to be purchased by around 1/3 of all current Macbook users. Perhaps a return to the 2015 dimensions but any more would be risky and hard to promote when people are looking to upgrade devices. I would expect the 14" device to be most popular by far due to the portability like previous years have shown.

My 16 will be carried from and to home every week day. Sometimes it'll also be carted to a few places during the day. It won't just live on a desk. So I do hope it's not too much heavier or bulkier than the current 16.

Huh. I just checked my late 2013 RMBP 15" and it's not only heavier but bigger in every dimension over the 2019 MBP 16". I guess anybody coming from an older MBP won't have an issue with bigger or heavier.

The E-cores could also be much more efficient and "bigger" than the ones in M1 and thus only 2 are enough.

I am sure Apple chip engineers know what they are doing, after all Apple makes the best SoCs in the industry.

I might put my previous post a different way, without the tech.

If 'what they are doing' is making the best product they can right now, with available technology, then I'm all for it.

If 'what they are doing' ends up being intentionally leaving out things and purposefully restricting features and performance so they can push next year's model, then I'm not OK with that.

Next year's model doesn't need to be a must-have upgrade over this one. People who upgrade their laptops every year are nuts, unless they can get fantastic resell value (which depends on how good the next model is). It is enough that next year's model will be better than this one, as will the one after that. In 3-5 years time, when it is time to upgrade, the new models will be a worthy upgrade either way.

Apple doesn't need to keep trying to convince current Mac users to upgrade on a faster cadence. They don't dominate the PC market like they do with mobile phones, watches and tablets. They need to convince Windows PC users to switch to a Mac, and they need to do that by having the BEST hardware. But that's not enough. Lots of PC people, especially the loud ones, hate Apple. So Apple needs to make sure there are as few reasons NOT to switch to Mac as possible. Intentionally holding back features, especially features that PC will have very soon (like DDR5 RAM for example, or only two E-cores, or a NOTCH) gives PC users a reason not to switch, and to tell all the PC users they know (who may not be as technologically literate) not to switch.

Also, might as well point out that the A15 in the new iPhones and iPads has 4 E-cores. 4 E-cores is currently the established baseline.

EDIT: To be clear, I'm not trying to be grumpy at you. I'm grumpy with Apple, because I'm worried that they will choose to hold things back for next year. I'm hoping I'm wrong, that Apple have poured everything they have this year into a phenomenal MBP, and next year's hero won't be the 'new and improved MBP', but the groundbreaking Mac Pro, that Apple will devote the majority of next year into designing.

It does seem very high but we have been waiting for quite some time and many skipped the 2016 era due to butterfly keyboards and usb c only so it wouldn't be a totally absurd suggestion.

Okay I haven't been tracking all the latest rumors in the past few days because I've been on the Apple Watch fun train--is this notch thing really happening?

(I know we'll know tomorrow; I'm just curious if this is troll-started or for reals?)

Yeah, its not really a "notch". Well, it is a notch, but the way its being reported by some sites, they're saying that you can look at your Mac desktop today and you'll have a notch in it. What seems to be getting lost in the noise is that when people have been looking at the leaked screen resolutions, it seems that you can look at your Mac desktop today and there will an extra bar at the top, with the notch in it and space to either side which can be used for status items...

And then you still have your normal macOS desktop with menu bar below it. Which I'd be fine with.

With chargers being sent to stores, it does look like its order later today for delivery or pickup on Friday.

As long as Apple incudes a better/high tier Apple Sillicon than what we now it will be fine

As long as Apple includes a mini-led HDR display, it will be fine

As long as Apple includes ANYTHING it will be fine even a notch for me( I don't care about notch)

I will still buy it. It will be better the Intel stove we have now when the current 16" screams while watching 4k video.


BUT if Apple decides to use the butterfly keyboard then oh boy THAT will be the biggest turn off EVER.

What is normally the go with pre orders for macs?
Do they come live for pre-order as soon as they are announced? Or are they like the iPhone, how they normally open pre-orders a few days later?

There’s nil stock to be had anywhere, I’m not expecting Apple to start up production again either so Apple refurbs and second hand will probably be the only way of getting your hands on one from now.
