Prowling Tiger, I think if you look at the first posting, you will see that the OP was just bouncing a few thoughts and questions around. Exactly what these good forums are for. Why do you act so defensively just because the guy doesn't want to buy a Mac just yet?
Macsander, I think you need to reread my post. As I stated, twice, I am quite happy to wait a year to purchase. By which time, according to the Intel roadmap, Nehalem will be mainstream, Penhryn will be marginalised.
As Snow Leopard will come, according to both Apple and yourself, around next June/July, isn't that a year from now?
If I don't notice any performance boost from Nehalem, I will be surprised. The removal of the FSB will have noticeable impact on many routine activities. Much greater on Pro Apps though, as you say.
If the supplied memory is still 2gb by this time next year, I would be surprised. But it's hardly a high cost issue to remedy.
I'm not sure where you picked up the Blu Ray idea from - I simply stated that my iMac would come supplied with a much bigger hard drive and possibly, a radical new disk fs. Frankly, I have zero interest in blu-ray.
Respectfully, I think you skimmed my post in your rush to post. Give it another nozz, I think you'll see what I mean.
I don't think wrldwzrd89 or myself mean to diss any of you guys who use and love your Macs, and would buy another tomorrow if you could. It's just that we have a slightly longer wait to do so, either by circumstance or choice.
