Actually it isnt.

Mk1, Mk2, 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, 5S, 5C

Theres been 9 iterations I know of not counting network speciffic versions.

Uh no

iPhone, 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, 5/5c, 5S.

If your really want to count the 5c then there are about to be 8

You can't count storage capacity change as a separate model

I'm waiting, because I update my phone every 2 years according to my contract. My contract won't be up until the iPhone 6 comes out. Plus, the 5S didn't really have anything I'm dying to have. The "S's" never do in my opinion. I've had the iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 4, iPhone 5, and will wait for the 6. I have a feeling that the iPhone 6 is really a do or die for Apple. It has to have something new and revolutionary, or Apple will be left behind. Apple really has a chance to change the (phone) world again, or get blown out of the phone business like the iPhone did to Nokia, RIM and others.

I know several people that are eligble for updates from their 4S's and were completely uninspired by the 5S, and therefore they are going to the Galaxy 4 or Note III. Me personally, I will stick with iPhones until Apple stops making them, hopefully they don't stop for many years to come. BUT, iPhone 6 has to blow people away, otherwise Apple is in big trouble. Phone wise.

My decision is hinging on how the iPhone 5c feels in my hand.

At this point in time I've all but decided to stick with my iPhone 4, but if I get my hands on a 5c at an Apple store and really like the way it looks/feels I may break down and go for one. (Either White or Blue, haven't quite decided yet.)

I'm vaguely interested in the 5s, but ideally I'd want a 64GB phone, but there's absolutely no way I'm dropping $400 on a phone.

It wasnt just storage copacity over the first release. There was other slight refinements. However i can concede it was so little you may be able to discount the mk2 =) 5C counts though as its different design with different internals like the lovechild of a 5 and 3GS.

Either way we have still had atleast 9 versions of the iPhone which is amazing.

The screen size remains the same!
I understand that not everybody would be happy with a "phablet-size" screen, due to single hand usability sacrifice but making it at least slightly wider to get to 4.5 - 5 inch display size would have pleased a lot of us.

Home button is still a tactile button, which you can press so eventually it will break/mailfunction after 1000 presses. I find it obsolete, since the fingerprint sensor and the metal ring around are already enough to detect a finger

Camera specs are also slightly disappointing. Despite the bigger pixels, the chip resolution could have been increased as well. You can also merge pixels to reduce noise in low light conditions via software

NFC? No?

64bit CPU: OK, but why not a quad core?

No stereo speakers... I know I'm probably the only one who cries about it...

But the worst thing, among with the tiny display, are the terrible new colors! No slick black, simple white or just bare aluminum but GOLD and Space Grey... ewww.

I'm not sure what you were expecting? The whole world knew it was going to be an "S" model before there were even leaks.

1) Screen size: I'm waiting for this too but did not expect it this time around. Again, S model.

2) Home button: I have never had a home button go bad but I do know people that have. I'd prefer a capacitive button but with the finger print sensor I'm not sure how it would now work? ie; inputting finger print vs hitting home in certain areas.

3) Camera: how do you know it is disappointing? If you look at what they added I believe it will be better than everything out there (except the 1020 perhaps). The iPhone 5 still has a high end camera among phones. I'd take it over my sgs4 camera in any non well lit condition. Megapixels aren't everything.

4) NFC: they should add it but it looks like they want to push ibeacon/BT.

5) quad core: we still don't know what the a7 is. Besides, I'm not sure where this lagging you are experiencing is? Even on a jailbroken iPhone 5 with tons of tweaks I only rarely see a stutter. I prefer battery life ! On my s4 I set 2 of the cores to be turned off usually to save battery. Little performance hit.

6) stereo speakers: valid want. Personally I'd rather have a compact phone then bigger speakers.

7) color ways: I love my slate iPhone but it just didn't hold up too well to scratches and scuffs. Ghost grey doesn't look too different. Maybe a bit more durable?

I don't want a 'new and revolutionary' phone! I don't want a yet another crazy hyped feature. No curved screens, no holograms, no translucent phone...

All I want Apple to do is just to maximize the convenience factor for their customers.

It's really not that hard

(hardware)

- a slightly bigger screen
- better speaker quality
- a long lasting battery
- durable screen glass
- durable headset jack and buttons
- more storage capacity
- no decadent colors (e.g. gold)
- more in-house peripherals
- high quality materials and finishing (no plastic)
- slightly thinner case

EDIT:
I forgot to mention that software is as important as hardware.

However, I cannot complain about iOS. So far it has successfully held me back switching to Android.

Same here. I'd love the option for a bigger screen, but I didn't expect it this time around. Hopefully next year.

I like the fingerprint sensor. I don't think we should have an actual button anymore. I've had too many go bad.

3) Camera: how do you know it is disappointing? If you look at what they added I believe it will be better than everything out there (except the 1020 perhaps). I like the iPhone camera, so the 5S should be better, and the optics should improve every generation. Not much else to say there. Huge improvement over the years in camera phones though. I almost never use my SLR anymore.

I don't know what I'd use NFC for. Don't care for quad core, just want everything to work smoothly.

6) stereo speakers: valid want. Personally I'd rather have a compact phone then bigger speakers.

I agree. Would be nice, but compactness wins out there.

7) color ways: I love my slate iPhone but it just didn't hold up too well to scratches and scuffs. Ghost grey doesn't look too different. Maybe a bit more durable?

I want a dark matte grey unibody phone. But I honestly don't care about the color that much.

This is like every other complaint thread. Screen size, plus secondary issues. I have seen no improvement in them. OP, I am disappointed in you.

Well, there is one difference. Apple truly made the best decision with the camera but you found cause to complain on spec sheet grounds. Congratulations. You're bringing the forum to a new low.

I wish they would have added the IR so I could use my phone at my TV remote. I miss that function from my htc one.

I'm in the same boat here. I'll be waiting to see what the 6 brings to the table. Mainly because my upgrade isn't until May of 2014, but secondly because I wasn't all that impressed with this release. Hopefully the 6 will bring a larger screen.

I have an iPhone 4 in my hand right now that's 3 years old so well over 1000 button clicks and still functioning perfectly.

Me too.

And I'm happy (despite being very very very tempted to upgrade to the discounted Nexus 4) to keep it until the iPhone 6 ... Which I have a feeling will be an explosive upgrade. I just can't justify upgrading to the iPhone 5c/s now ...
