This is what AMD and IBM would like the future to be. And quite the same what I've been writing here too: co-processors era a la Amiga is coming back. CPU's are hitting the wall, specialised co-processors are needed.

I have no idea, how I missed this announcement. Thanks for that Zarni. The biggest winner here is AMD because they have both CPUs, and GPUs.

Only AMD has x86 CPUs and high performance GPUs. Nvidia maybe have high performance GPUs but low performance CPUs. Intel has high-performance CPUs but their GPUs are low-performance, relative to others.

So no my friend. AMD is the biggest winner here. Because their offerings can scale from small computers to biggest cloud servers.

And yet people here are advocating for ARM...
You are now moving the goal post to a narrow place where it fit your theory.
Nothing is restricting Intel from producing high performance GPU since they have both the talent and cash to do so.
In the same vein, nothing is restricting Nvidia from producing high performance CPU since they also have the talent and the cash to do so. They do lack the x86 and x86-64 license, but since we are talking about a new generation of amiga like plateform that would in fact be a plus as neither those plateform were created with that architecture in mind.

That is true, that nothing restrict Intel from producing high-performance GPUs. Nothing also restricts Nvidia to produce high-performance CPUs.

But they do not do anything like this. And nothing in their product roadmaps suggest that would also might happen. Perfect world? Intel buying Nvidia and getting rid of Nvidia CEO. Sanity with technology combined together.

Not doing it presently isn't the same as not doing it at all, ever. In fact, I would go as far as saying that if Zen isn't an overwhelming success you may see AMD rationalising it's operations and drop out of the high end market all togheter.
They're already hemorraging money and have their hands in too many basket.

And I wouldn't bet on the video game console to save them either as this market is shrinking faster than that of PCs as people are moving more and more to mobile for their casual gaming. With the crap that come out on console this generation people are more incline to use their console to stream media than to play.

Well sorry, sir, but relying on theoretical hope that Nvidia/Intel can come up with something in long future is in the context a bit weird. Right now, the biggest winner is AMD.

I suggest to you updating your information on AMD latest financial situation. It is not that bad as most people make it.

As a last word, but this time on topic. I do have a feeling that if we will see ditching out Intel from Apple computers, and swithching to AMD CPU/GPUs definitely we will find also this interconnect in question.

I get the rooting for the underdog thing, but people should keep in mind that the David vs Goliath story was just that a story. In the real world David gets pummeled to a bloody pulp by the giant...

Does HP make a good computer with Thunderbolt ? Because I've been thinking about a PC also but ALL my external devices are TB.

That's the one thing keeping me from switching.

You can put a Thunderbolt 2 card in the Z series towers. They really need to update those to TB3/USBC though.
 
Thunderbolt support is a little nebulous on Windows. From what I understand this is the current situation

Win7 / Win8 - Thunderbolt2

Win10 - Thunderbolt3 (looks like Win10 doesn't support TB1/TB2 directly.)

I'm hoping that you can use TB2 devices on a Win10 box via TB3 and an adapter (TB3<->TB2). This is the same route you're going to have to take with the Mac since the physical connector has changed with TB3/USB3. Adapters are around $100 dollars.

I really wish someone could confirm this. Maybe a visit to a Microsoft or HP store is in order...
 
What if the real delay was that Apple has also been developing a microphone to stick on the Mac Pro for Siri integration?
