Waiting for Quad Core 27" iMac - Australia

I am really starting to wonder about the benefit of Applecare and any extended warranty,
especially for experienced Mac users that don't use the help desk part of it.

High ticket items like an iMac are covered under Statutory warranty if they break down or develop a fault within what is judged to be a reasonable amount of time. So with a computer 3 to 5 years would be a reasonable
amount of time that you would expect it to work with fair use.
The only proviso is that you are likely to get the unit repaired quicker from Apple,
where under Statutory Warranty you have to return it to where you purchased it, and negotiate
a replacement or repair.

ding ding we have a winner. no questions asked coverage is worth it. divide the cost by the 36 months its $7.70 a month.

Worth it? Yes.

I have been lurking for a while being angry in the background and now I have decided to voice what has happened to two different orders. Both of these orders are for the 27" I7 with apple care. No other Additions.

First order with a retail mac reseller and was an education purchase for one of my clients. Order Date on or around the 12/11/2009. Reseller advised that the order would be end of Month.

Recieved an email today from reseller containing the following: "Apple have just conferred with us that all I7 Units for Australia are now officially delayed until january 2010"

What a crock when you can order off the web and have it delivered probably by Christmas!!!

Second order with a mac reseller - non retail. This order is for myself as I am an employee of a reseller and was at the 20% discount level making silly to cancel and go through the retail channel.

The ETA initially provided for the second order was 30/11 we all know how that wasn't going to happen. Last communication from them contained the following "unfortunately he cannot give me an ETA for this because Apple cannot give him an ETA – there is no stock."

I just need to wait it out. First order for client won't want to pay retail.

To rub salt into my wounds they shipped me the applecare package!!!! BASTARDS!

Anyway that is my cry and I feel for all of you in the same/similar boat.

Can anyone confirm if this affects i5 orders? I ordered BTO (Added another 4 gig of ram) on an otherwise stock i5, with an apple remote through DJ's at Marion.
Lots of ppl getting notices about the retail delays say i7, but i cant find anything with i5 so maybe, just maybe there is a chance of receiving it before xmas and the kids getting a new toy while i work to pay it off!
Not holding my breath though.

Ohh and welcome to the forum rawr! We feel your pain! You have it even worse having ordered for clients. Do Education purchases go though retail? We had a strapping young chap in here who ordered though the business partner channel and had his order shipped overnight after contacting his Business Partner rep. Im still waiting to be able to frag his arse on COD4...
 
Guys, I hate to confirm the bad news, I can officially tell you that all 27" iMac's possibly including C2D's will NOT be shipping until Mid January.

This definitely includes ALL Quad Cores.

There is officially now a World Wide Shortage..... 🙄

All David Jones customers who have pre-ordered, ordered, or simply put your details down are entitled to a $50 refund off the machine if you are willing to keep the order in place, however you are officially entitled to a complete refund, the choice is up to you.

If you have signed up for a DJs card, put it on interest free and paid for it.
I suggest you put in a complaint to customer relations.

I won't be able to post too much tonight, so please excuse me if it takes a day or so to reply to queries.

Truth-be-told - all orders are being processed. Doesn't matter whether or not you order from a reseller or Apple themselves.

Apologies to Motegi and everyone else out there stuck wait for these new machines. They're worth it... but it's a damn shame Apple announces a product we'd all love to get our hands on and then pulls a Microsoft and realise they were ill prepared to launch the unit with any sort of volume .

Here's the deal:

Apple, for a ridiculous number of reasons (and excuses), is withholding stock from resellers so they can attempt to fill their own orders. Something to bear in mind is that Apple has such a massive backlog of orders right now that it's doubtful anyone who has ordered in the last week or two is going to receive a machine before Christmas. Most likely orders will trickle through in the first week of January.

This is reminiscent of the same situation that occurred in March with the launch of the 24" iMacs with the ATi Radeon 4850 HD Graphics Cards. Those machines took 7-8 weeks from the date they were announced before they reached most recipients. The same thing is going to happen with the Quads... only worse. Apple is in short supply for the following:

New Magic Mouse
New Wireless Keyboards
512MB ATi 4850 Graphics Cards

Note that these are all standard components required for the Quads.

C'est la vie. 🙁

Does anyone know what "Recovery Actions Underway" means? seems to be quite common in the last few days. Do those orders end up getting shipped or go back to China?

Everyone could see that coming 🙁 Release a new powerful machine at a lower price that has bugs (increases returns and production of replacement machines) and then, before you can even fill all the initial preorders, have a sale to reduce the price by 10%!

I wonder if the shortage will affect online orders aswell or if news of how pissed off the resellers are has got to Apple management and they have done the normal American tactic of creating a problem to solve an imaginary other "problem".. hehehe.. you know what im talking about... 🙂

Awesome. Do we contact our sales rep to get them to adjust the invoice or will it be done automagically when we pick our order up? I'm hanging in there still to get my order through DJ's - hopefully im not the only one!

Anyone seen anymore online articles about this shortage yet? Its bound to hit the mainstream IT media anytime now.. Nothing we can do but sit back and forget about it for a few months i suppose, enjoy your Xmas break with your family, and try not to lose all your photos before you get your mac to put them into iphoto 🙂 The fat cats at Apple will enjoy their Xmas break even more, buy a plane or a fast car, shout all their mates a day at the baseball or whatever they play over there....

It looks like the powers to be are fully aware of how pissed off the resellers and their customers are, ball is well and truly out of our (Consumer) court now. As my first Apple computer purchase i can say this has been horrible. The lies and deception coupled with the tactics used by Apple in not even trickle feeding reseller orders brings feelings of disgust and disappointment. The last time i felt like this was at the end of the Crows vs Collingwood game last season .. Apple is like the umpire on the home ground giving away free kicks and looking the otherway when it suits them..

when i rang up TNT to ask them what it meant, in my case it meant they were trying to slot for the plane to fly off.. (apparently)

I'm in the exact same predicament.
Except I've been waiting since Wednesday 2nd Dec.......and it's still "Connection Delay Recovery Actions Underway."

I have spoke to TNT a few times.
Unfortunately, they have so many shipments accumulating at Pudong airport that there is a back log.
From the day it is delayed, expect about (roughly) a 5 day wait until it's back in transit.
(Day 3 for me).

It depends if you have paid already.. I would go in and see the apple rep and find out if the order has been charged, if it's been charged it's better to get the refund sorted earlier rather than later.

If it hasn't been charged, you remind them again when they process the order when the stock arrives.
 
My i7 changed from connection delay to in transit from pudong airport yesterday about 2pm.

Checking with other australian orders, it takes about 24 between the 'in transit' to the 'arrived in sydney', which make it about now that it would be arriving.... BUT TNT ONLINE IS DOWN :'(

this is also my first mac 😀

I don't know if you'll get yours tomorrow, it seems it takes a day to get to melbourne and then another to start shipping... i've been checking out other people's order timelines and it seems that each "stage" takes a full day or more to complete

My status just changed to out for delivery but today is my first shift at my awesome new job (Georges Cameras on George st in Sydney CBD, right next to the apple store! 😛) so it'd be pretty hard to make a good first impression with a sicky. I'll leave a note asking the guy to try and redeliver after a certain time, even though it probably won't work due to his schedule.

What was your order date and when did it ship? I'm waiting on an i5, due to ship on 11-dec.
