I just want the newest product and I want it now! Who cares about specs!

Well if you don't care about specs just buy the current model.. it's still an incredibly fast, awesome device.

We don't know what the 2016 rMBP will bring, it could be a small bump in spec, same design, etc... if spec isn't a buying factor for you then you may not even notice the difference... so what exactly are you waiting for? or are you just 'one of them' that must have the latest and greatest just because it's got an Apple logo on it?

I still have the original 2012 rMacbook pro, it's still in A+ condition, looks as good as the day I purchased it and is still the fastest computer I have used to this day.

If you really want the new rMBP just go for it :)

With the talk of Siri (and possibly Touch ID) on MacBook Pros I fear we're talking about a June revealing. These are both features of the upcoming OS X, which debuts at WWDC.

If there's a dedicated Siri button and Touch ID, Apple can't show new MBPs in March.

Edit: On the other hand: the new OS X isn't due until fall so then we're really in the **** here.

"Here's our new MBP, it has a Siri button, but you can't use it until September/October when we release 10.12."

I'd say this sounds fairly accurate. Apple will want Siri to be as smooth as possible and clicking with a mouse or trackpad kinda defeats the object of Siri as you could simply click on the action you wanted. Apple will almost certainly provide a dedicated button to make accessing Siri a quick process... maybe we will also need an improved microphone?

Why manually click Siri and then talk, in that time you could have searched or whatever, it will be a simple button press, hot keys won't do, it needs to be a dedicated button.

There is no way Apple will release this functionality on their Macbooks without the software to actually use it.

This means either Apple will not be releasing a new rMBP until we're ready for the next OS X or they'll be releasing one very soon, with another coming later in the year... i'd bet on the former.

What about a simple 'Hey Siri'? No need for a button. This way they still could update the rMBP's and the new OSX a few months later would then add Siri.

You have to remember that if Apple doesn't make a move pretty soon, competition has had a great advantage as there haven't been any competing products from the Mac world. The new XPS's, the Surface Book/Pro, ThinkPad and pretty soon the VAIO laptop will all thrive if Apple doesn't get off their asses and does something.
So a september/october release for the update rMBP would be very very stupid.

I don't know if you remember but a while ago a Chinese (?) rumor site with a fairly good track record claimed Apple would release a minor update in the spring and a total redesign this fall. I'm now inclined to see this as a plausible outcome.

I'd assume they would do something like this anyway if they wanted to provide backwards compatibility with older MacBooks so it's not entirely out of the question.

After reading about Siri though, and possibly touch id i'm highly confident we won't be seeing the major update this spring.. so if we do get anything in march, i won't be expecting much... this seems like the major thing to announce at WWDC.

Wasn't aware of that, whether accurate or not it falls in line with what we're saying... even more evidence we won't be seeing any major rMBP update until the fall.

Setting aside Touch ID (does anyone have a source for where this latest rumour started? I'm finding stuff from 2015 due to a patent filing, but nothing recent), Siri only requires a microphone, which all Macs already come equipped with. I'm not sure the "new software needs new hardware therefore no reveal before WWDC" holds water.

This would be the worst possible scenario. I'm waiting since last year to replace my mid 2012 MacBook Air. If I buy a new MacBook I would love to haveSkylake, Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C since I plan to have this notebook for 4 years.

I can't see them bringing it to the masses without a physical button... it would essentially be half baked. Just an assumption of course.

I think a co processor that listens for Hey Siri all the time would be needed too ... otherwise it is just as lame as iPhone 6

Quoting Mark Gurman directly:
"Siri on the Mac will have its own pane in System Preferences and users are said to also have the option to choose a keyboard shortcut for activating the service. Like with recent versions of iOS, users will be able to enable Siri at the first startup of OS X 10.12, according to sources. If the Mac running the new OS X version is plugged into power, a “Hey Siri” command will work much like with recent iPhone and iPad models."

To me, that sounds like they won't be adding a physical button just for Siri (and honestly in my imagination, Jony Ive would have a tantrum at the mere suggestion of such a thing).

A co-processor (if it is needed) can be part of a non-redesign refresh, as it would only impact internals :)

One rumor about Siri and everyone's saying the fall. Personally a keyboard button wouldn't do it for me, with force touch trackpads why not just a hard 2 second (two finger?) press, similar to a 2 second press on the home button in iOS.

Seems like that would be the most accessible and convienent spot, on the biggest button the Mac has. Off course, always on, "Hey Siri" works as well.

Both good points, oh well... back to square one :D

This is a screenshot from Tim's interview with ABC.
You can clearly see the new rMBP in the background!
What a leak!
Bildschirmfoto 2016-02-25 um 11.20.05.png

I call Bull! That's obviously a 2008 Black Macbook EFI hacked to run Yosemite ;). Before someone refers to the "previous" leak, that was a 12" rMB but this looks a bit bigger than that from this angle, thicker too...

I want to believe this. It even seems to me like the base is flatter, not curved like the rMB's... and that grey looks greyer than that of the rMB.... could it be?

God damn it Apple. You're doing this on purpose. Why do you do this to us?

And to think people were complaining just this week about there being no mbp rumours at all :)

Yeah, especially the bottom part reminds me of a retina Macbook Pro, not of a Macbook.
And the color is more a "iPhone 5 black" than space grey.
[doublepost=1456401205][/doublepost]This collage is a proof that we're indeed seeing the new rMBP here:

I'm still kind of sceptical towards the whole TouchID on Mac idea. But if Apple implements it, hopefully Johnny comes up with a good design. Unlike the iphone battery cases

I think Johnny did't even know for that iPhone battery case - his team did that just to piss him off... ;)

I don't see a physical button for Siri coming. You forget about all the others products (which indeed needs to be updated...), do you believe Apple is going to add a Siri button to MacBook, MacBook Air, and the new keyboard?
Nope.

Speaking of future anyway, I've figured some scenarios that could help us understand what's coming up.
Feel free to criticize or add conjectures.

Scenario 1: March event, Apple doesn't introduce redesigned MBPs, so they will come at the WWDC in June
Scenario 2: March event, Apple introduce redesigned MBPs, we are all happy.
Scenario 3: March event, Apple doesn't introduce redesigned MBPs but makes a silent upgrade. Redesign coming in June. Considering the few leaks we have this seems unlike, as having to produce a new computer just for three months is kinda weird. But what if...

Scenario 4: March event, Apple silent upgrades to Skylake the MBPs but teases/introduces a completely new line that will substitute the Air. Or maybe they will introduce it directly at the WWDC. The new MacBook Pro-Pro, or MacBookPower Pro, or whatever.

I think that these could actually make sense, as it would refresh the "old" MBPs without loosing more time (aaaargh!), but still introduce a new line of products that could make their sales grow, as supposed by analyst Ming Chi Kuo, and yet according to the leaks of DigiTimes. And yet again this would fit with a claimed rumor that appeared some time ago on a chinese kinda-trustable forum, and reported on this thread.
edit: This was the users who claimed the rumors, check his posts on this thread to see them.

Also this could help Apple get rid of the nicknames of its products: no more Air (that doesn't make anymore sense at this point) and no more retinaMacBook Pro. They will be all retina, so MacBook / MacBook whatev. / MacBook Pro.

What do you think?

anyway Apple if this wasn't your plan but you're reading this thread, feel free to stole my idea and pay me a share of your sales.

Specs bump rMBP in March and redesign MBA in WWDC?

This would make sense:
12" Macbook
14" Macbook (replacing the 11" and 13" Macbook Air)

14" retina Macbook Pro
16" retina Macbook Pro

What do you think?

I think the current 12" Macbook was just released to test the new design and the concept of almost no ports - if it works out (which it seems to) Apple will release Macbook Pros with the same concept and design.
