35W CPU already was in Retina MBP ;). Apple will not go for 15W CPUs in MBP. They are reserved for MBA. Also 15W CPU will not have Iris Pro. Iris GT3e will be there but in 28W CPUs.

Edit. Ive read right now that 15W CPU will have Iris...

That means the latter went a bit further. MBA will get dual core CPU with Iris, 13 inch MBP will get Iris with eDRAM, and possibly quad core with, Iris with eDRAM(GT3e) or GT4 iGPU.

This time however, I will not predict the performance of each stage of GPU. I will be pleased if GT3e will be able to get 3000 its in 3dMark11.

Wow, I hope this is true! I really hope the next 13" MBP update GPU will have some form of build in memory, either GT3e or GT4.

I just hope that in any future redesign Ive doesn't neuter the MacBook Pro in order to satisfy his obsession with thinness.
Hopefully form over function doesn't win out yet again.
If it does I have to say there would be little left in the Mac lineup I would be interested in buying.

The MBA will likely not be upgraded anymore, Broadwell was its last refresh.
With Skylake, we'll probably get dual 15W and quad 37W for respectively the redesigned rMBP13 and rMBP15.

Are there any signs that Apple may work on redesigning the chassis of the MBP?

I would not put my two cents on it...

What kind of sign would you expect to see about a Mac laptop so far away from actual production waiting for Skylake?

If they are going to change to USB-C all over the line, want to exploit their new stacked battery design, and utilize their minimal motherboard approach, I don't see why they shouldn't do a new design to accomodate all that.

Edit: And new keyboard of course.

All I want is to be able to get my 15" MBP in space grey! this will effect my purchase choice a lot. I don't own a laptop right now and am in the market, but I want to wait on the new MBP just in case they do change the colour choices. I would also love 2 x USB-C, 2x USB3 and maybe wireless charging. I'm easily impressed. :p

EDIT: Off topic, is it worth getting apple care on a MBP? thanks.

Changing the port to accommodate USB-C is not that difficult that would require redesigning whole enclosure. Second, if there would be redesign of the styling 9to5Mac would already report it. And they didn't. Gurman is very well informed about Apple plans.

Im not saying that redesign cannot happen, but so far there is very little clues to believe it. Only the wanting from customers ;).

Mag safe is a must, if they axed it I'll say Apple just got rid of one of the reason why one would want to buy an apple notebook.

I believe one of the cons of the new Macbook is it not having mag safe

Here's my biggest question. I've read through this forum and a lot of other website, but I can't seem to find a good answer.

Basically, based on the leaked timeline of when Intel is supposedly releasing Skylake's chips, are the ones that are coming out in 2015 the same ones that would replace the current rMPB chips in the 13" and/or 15"? or do we even know which chips those are going to be?

The main reason that I'm waiting for skylake would be for a possible redesign because I would imagine that Apple would want them to match the recent changes in the Macbook. I'm willing to wait until October, but I don't feel like waiting until 2016. I was just curious if the general consensus was that there would be a good chance of a rMPB update in October like there has been in the past or most likely pushed until 2016. Granted, I know its all speculation, but I have not found a lot of consistent info on this.

You will get about 5 different answers to this question, I have been trying to find out myself but people insist on everything between September this year to early 2017.

At the very least, you'll have a better idea of the release time-table by October.

First of all, there's virtually no chance of any appropriate chips for either the 13" or 15" MBPs being released in September; all of those chips are likely to lack vPro.

The 15" MBP Skylake chips are probably going to be the i7-6820HQ and i7-6920HQ; per leaked roadmaps, those are slated for release in October-November.

As for the 13" MBP Skylake chips, availability depends on what Apple chooses to use. If they use 15W U class chips (as I suspect because Intel seems to not be producing 28W chips for Skylake, 15W Skylake U class chips will now have Iris Pro graphics, and due to improved battery life), the appropriate vPro chips (i5-6300U and i7-6600U) likely won't be released until January. If Apple deigns to give us a quad core 13" rMBP (which some others are expecting but which Apple has sadly never done, even when appropriate Ivy Bridge chips were available), the appropriate i5-6440HQ is scheduled for October-November.

Are in the Skylake line any Dual Core 25 Watt CPUs?

;)

Probably going to announce at least new 15 inchers (or whatever the size will be now) in October when releasing El Capitan.

Im not sure still if there will be 15W version of CPU with GT3e. GT2 - yes, in that I can believe. GT3e? Im having a really hard time believing in it.

Thanks very much for posting that source. I also found similar info on http://wccftech.com/intel-skylake-s...d-z170-100series-chipset-replace-z97-2h-2015/

That being said, the Andandtech info was from 10/11/14, and the WCCFTech info above was from 1 year ago. More recent sources seem to say that the U class Skylake chips will all be 15W, with ThinkScopes specifically mentioning their surprise at the omission of U class chips outside of 15W. This suggests to me that Intel's plans from 2014 may have changed and 15W U class is now what is most likely.
See:

http://www.thinkscopes.com/2015/05/...-plattform-overview-and-thinkpad-speculation/

On a side note, the WCCF Tech source above also stated that the H class quad core Skylake chips will have a TDP of 45W and up. If accurate (which I'm wondering about as I mentioned, given the age of the article), then it would seem that quad core 13" MBPs would remain unrealistic.

Some more leaks as of today:

Short Summary:
  • H-Series (45/65W Mobile) will get GT4e (72 Execution Units +50% up from GT3e Broadwell)
+16% GPU/ +11% CPU overall performance increase compared to Broadwell
  • U-Series will get eDRAM +30% GPU performence /+10% CPU
  • Y-Series/Gen 2. Core M +40% GPU perfromence /+17% CPU
  • all CPU will get HEVC h.265 hardware decoder for better battery life

The best thing about Skylake will be the 80% lower silicon power (CPU+PCH+networking) they state for the H series. That means notebooks with Quad cores can get the kind of battery life only U series chips allow. May not make such a huge difference on the MBP which is well optimized but still. On Windows notebooks that draw 15-20W at idle, because platform optimization leaves something to be desired, it will be a huge jump in effective battery life. They will easily last suddenly twice as long or even thrice.

For those interested in performance of GPUs. Look at reviews of Intel Broadwell CPUs with Intel HD6200. It has 48 cores with 128 MB of eDRAM. Skylake GT3e will have the same amount of cores(48), with 64 MB of eDRAM, so it should perform the same.

GT4e on the other hand has 72 cores with 128 MB of eDRAM. So it should be 50% faster than Iris Pro 6200. And in the range of GTX860M performance... ;).
