Visually, I hate those camera holes. I hope they go for something that looks like a Dynamic Island instead.

Also, notch is definitely not a big deal.
I agree… personally I put a dark wallpaper on my MacBook Pro and I don’t notice there is a notch lol 🤣 If it’s a hole then it will look like worse unless dark wallpaper can safe it.

I don’t really get the premise of this article. People thought a processor bump in the Oct 2024 MBP release was a huge upgrade? lol

OLED Display
Goodbye, mini-LED
Several rumors have indicated that the first MacBook Pro models with OLED displays will be released in 2026. Research firm Omdia claims Apple is "highly likely" to introduce new MacBook Pros featuring OLED displays next year, while display analyst Ross Young has said that Apple's supply chain is expected to have sufficient notebook-optimized OLED display production capacity in 2026 to bring the technology to MacBook Pro. Compared to current MacBook Pro models that use mini-LED screens, the benefits of OLED technology would include increased brightness, higher contrast ratio with deeper blacks, improved power efficiency for longer battery life, and more.

What's the current state-of-the-art on OLED burn-in/etc? Unlike a TV, the expected use case is a computer UI/UX with a fixed menubar and dock -- not to mention permanent/fixed UI/UX elements in many applications.

I realize OLED have been used on iPhones and iPads for some years now but I've seen older iPhones with impressed Instagram/Tiktok logos on their screen among other artifacts. Given that a typical Pro laptop is active for 8+ hours per day and expected to last at least 5+ years, these seem at greater risk. Any sort of burn-in on a "Pro" laptop would unacceptable to me. And on-going anxiety or responsibility to make conscience efforts to avoid burn-in might even be worse as far as experience.

Precondition #1 for a perfect MBP: Replaceable/Upgradeable SSD like found in modern Mac Mini.

Everyone dreams of this, but greedy Apple will never give up this cash cow, rather the prices for upgrades will be raised again.

But what I expect is a 1 TB SSD and 32gb RAM in the base model! Anything else would not be a pro MacBook!

The demands on the OS and AI are increasing! 512GB would simply be far too little!

plus import tariffs... so it could be the most expensive MacBook Pro ever put on the market.
For once, the insane tariffs are only a problem in Trumpland. Here in Europe, the EU knows that tariffs only slow down the economy and cause prices to rise, because tariffs are always paid for by the consumer.

The mid-term elections are not until November, so perhaps Apple will postpone the new MacBook until 27 in the hope that Agent Orange's wings will have been clipped by then.

I have a 2022 M1 Max MacBook Pro and it's been an absolute beast of a machine (though Apple is telling me that it's going to need a battery service... thank goodness for Apple Care+).

I feel like the notch was designed with the intention of Apple adding Face ID to their laptops. And clearly that hasn't happened yet, or is low priority, or their research showed that people didn't actually want it. So if Face ID is now off the table, I can see a use case for a hole punch camera or under-display camera.

One challenge with the thinner-and-lighter approach is that the thin lid of laptops already strains what the cameras can do optically. The quality of the built-in cameras is abysmal compared to even the front camera on the iPhone. I almost exclusively use Continuity Camera with my MBP any time I have to make a video call, because the quality is SO MUCH BETTER than the camera built into the MBP's screen.

My only real wish is that Apple recesses the key caps by a fraction of a millimetre, and/or adds an oleophobic coating to the screen, because key cap imprints on the screen are still an issue, and they make me crazy.
Yes, it looks like they wanted to be able to add FaceID later without FaceID getting the blame for making the notch. They did something similar when they dropped support for 32-bit apps in-advance of switching to Apple Silicon so that Apple Silicon didn’t take the heat for breaking compatibility with them.

FaceID seems dumb on a laptop. On a phone, the FaceID sensors maybe also help improve selfie photo quality. Hopefully no one is taking selfies on a laptop. And you don’t need FaceID when you have a keyboard right there. I wish iPhone would go back to TouchID too. Then I could unlock the phone as I picked it up instead of holding it in front of my face like I’m taking a selfie.

It’d be nice for the MacBook to have a nicer camera, but it’s not worth making the screen thicker, imo. The current camera is sufficient for video meetings, and professional streamers would probably want to get an external camera anyway.

In light of the price increase I'd get whatever Mac that I can afford today than wait for something that s 2-3x more expensive

I'm wondering when Apple will implement under-display frontal camera, Redmagic has been doing for a few years already.
Just took a look at the tear down for a Redmagic 7 Pro. Since the front camera is not flush with the front glass, They hide the depth of the front camera above the rear cameras in the “bump”, but they don’t have any decoration above the rear cameras so your eye kind of misses it. That could explain the full width camera bump shown in the Pro and Air mock ups going around 🤔

Kinda jumping the shark there a bit. Couple years out from this MBP seeing light of day. Lot can happen in that time.

Perfection changes. I bet my record collection that not even Apple considers the new MacBook to be so perfect that there will never be another one afterwards. That much I would like to say about the headline.
Quite. I found the Aluminium 15" PowerBook G4 to be perfect for its time.

I hope they still offer LCD displays in some of their laptops for some time. I like to have my dock and menu bar displayed all the time and don’t want to have to worry about burn in :/

Awwwwww, perfect Macbook Pro?

- 5G Connectivity, finally 👍
- OLED panel, don't like, degrades over time 👎
- Thinner, Lighter Laptop 🥱
- Punch-Hole Camera 🥱
- M6 Series Chip, with massive AI improvement? 👍

Nevertheless for an AI machine with 128GB you'll have to sell house, wife and your firstborn son.
OLED not only degrades over time, it also uses PWM on iPads, which causes huge eye strain for me. I hope this won’t be the case for Macs.

I will stick with my 14 inch M1 MacBook Pro until there is a style change. If that is in 2026, then that will be my upgrade year. I look forward to a thinner machine, and an improved display.

When you can buy a new 16" M1 Max MBP with 8TB for $1850, 2025 is *the* year to buy a MBP.

Waiting to replace my 2017 15” MBP. Current 16” is just too bulky and heavy to be moved around but I don’t want to compromise on ports/display quality of a the current 15” Air. So, hopefully, 2026 is THE year to upgrade.

For sure it will be great, but already now MacBook Pro (and its display) is incredibile. I hope M5 improve 3D and raytracing performance, even a 10% boost in performance is already impressive for a notebook.
