I would like to bring up the issue of proper etiquette while waiting in line for a product launch.

I have never waited in line for a launch or camped out. Will those of you who have experience doing this, please offer your advice and any do's and dont's for waiting in line?

One question I have is regarding going to the bathroom. If I need to go to the bathroom and have become acquainted with either the person in front of me or behind me, is it ok to ask them to hold my spot while I run next door to use the rest room?

you cant trust those SOBs! just wear a diaper :) just kidding. as long as you feel comfortable with the group around you, i dont see why not. but you never know how people will act when the product quantities are limited.

I wouldn't trust someone else to hold my spot in line. Bring a friend. Biting, shoving, and hitting is encouraged.

I'm kidding of course. Still bring a friend, your MB or MBP and some DVDs

If it's between 5-6pm, I wouldn't trust my own mother to hold a spot in line for me.

Bring a book, wear an Apple shirt...live the dream.

Having done this recently at Ikea, there were solid rules presented, complete with wristbands signifying place in line. Although you won't have the same organized experience, the rules made sense and were fair.

    1. No saving spots in line.
    2. You can have people bring you food, but you can't leave to get food.
    3. Bathroom breaks are permitted, but no more than 15 minutes.

Your best bet is to be cool, make friends with the people around you in line, and use common sense (and common decency) to keep things friendly and organized.

What about getting my wife to hold my spot for a couple of hours as I am commuting home from work?

That's tricky from a fairness perspective, and was well handled by the wristband thing at Ikea. It really depends on how the other people in line react, but it's probably ok.

Establish the people behind and ahead of you as pee buddies and offer them the same courtesy as you would like from them. Call in food from pizza delivery if you can, or pack heavily. Verbally agree with those around you on line position number (for Wii, we all wrote it on our hands).

Take a few shots of vodka beforehand to dehydrate yourself and make sure you've peed a lot before you hit the line. Also, use plenty of laxatives beforehand to prevent a bathroom break later. You can be healthy when you're dead, or have iPhone, whichever comes first.

I dunno, how big of a line do you think I can expect, being from a semi-small city in Tennessee(Bristol)?

Doesn't seem like these rednecks down here could afford an iPhone. :-/

My girlfriend is going to hold my place in line for a while ... anyone who disagrees with this ... well ...

Personally, I don't see a problem with it. People did this for the PS3. There was this one kid who couldn't get out of work, so he had a buddy stand there for a few hours in his place. Nobody cared, as long as he had someone standing in his spot and didn't allow anyone to cut.

I'm at a crossroads here. I take blood pressure medication that makes me urniate often. I think I will need to skip my medication on the day of the launch. I hope my hospital has wifi.

I will personally wait in line for that gentleman/lady if I knew him/her

But I don't so SCREW YOU!

haha, jk but don't skip your medicine. Contrary to popular belief your life IS more important than a silly cell phone. (I am going to get flamed by that one)

I stood in line at Target for my Wii and it was like a hippie festival. Everyone was chilled out, no hostility. This was overnight, so we had a list of names. We allowed everyone to leave for 30 minutes without losing their spot in line, if they didn't come back....well too bad for them. Appleheads are pretty much hippies right?

I wonder if there will be noticeable differences between the people lined up at Apple Stores and those lined up at AT&T stores.
