My only beef with Walmart is that whenever they arrive in a town, the smaller Mom & Pop establishments die off quickly. But that's business.

I can save more by not shopping at Wal-Mart. It's bizarre.

Maybe in your area. We only had two other stores in our area before Walmart; a Whole Foods, and a small local chain. Both of which were ungodly overpriced for things like canned goods, dressing, soda, boxed food, etc. The other stores still have better quality when it comes to fish, meat, and produce, but I will never buy anything besides meat, fish, or produce at one of those stores again.

Here's an example: Bush's (the local chain), sells a bottle of dressing for $4.50, the same bottle of dressing costs $2.00 at Walmart, Whole Foods doesn't carry the dressing I use. That kind of thing outrages me, and the owner of the local chain wonders why his business has dropped by over 40%. I could honestly care less if the local chain goes under, Whole Foods will still be here, and so will the Farmer's market. Also, Walmart has given a lot of jobs to students in my area which is a good thing. I'm lucky, I don't have to work like my classmates, but at least there are jobs available now.

I can save money on the majority of things at Walmart, so I buy the majority of things at Walmart.

What difference does it make where you buy it? They're not going to be selling specially Walmart branded iPads. I know most of you guys joke about this stuff, but there really are Apple snobs who feel this way.
In terms of the actual product that you receive, none.

However, when you buy something from a retailer, they are getting a cut. Some people don't like Company X's business practices. By refusing to purchase from Company X, you are not supporting the company because you aren't giving it its cut of the retail sale.

That's all.

I think you missed his point.

Exactly. Whats the big deal if the iPad is sold in Wal-Mart!? Its a plus for both companies. If you have Apple stock you should be happy!

I love how Wal-Mart = Redneck to some people... unbelievable..

These same people said the same things on this very forum when the iPhone was sold at Wal-Mart.

Good for Wal-Mart I say!

Just like everything else, knock 2 bucks off it so they can say they have the "Lowest Prices".

Elitist much?
That's the kind of thing that bugs me about so many Mac users. Quite a few seem to think that they are above everyone else. Just ignore them, maybe they'll stick their noses up enough to get deprived of oxygen and finally leave us alone.

$2 off on everything in a shopping cart adds up quickly. I'd rather have the $2 in my pocket, than give it to a store.

The whole rednecks and Walmart thing is getting really old. My family shops at Walmart, not because we're rednecks (which we aren't), but because we can actually save money by shopping at Walmart. Walmart bashers, please just admit that you take issue with the fact that Walmart doesn't pay union wages, so we can end this myth.

Ever since a Walmart came to my area, a good portion of the people in our town have begun to shop there. And no, they aren't rednecks, unless doctors, partners at large law firms, and university professors are rednecks.

I have no problem with Walmart selling the iPad, I will still buy from Best Buy in order to rack up more reward points though.

This is a great point. I read an article not long ago that said Wal-Mart is actually helping people get *healthier* because they provide fresh fruits and veggies and much lower prices. It was interesting because most people want to eat healthy, but cost is a serious factor in getting fresh foods so people default to cheaper less healthy alternatives. It all makes sense when you look at obesity trends and generally poorer people are more obese. If someone has very little money they are going to buy off the $1 fast food menu and caloric dense junk food at the grocery store.

My only beef with Walmart is that whenever they arrive in a town, the smaller Mom & Pop establishments die off quickly. But that's business.

Now, WM isn't all good and I have some issues with their business practices but not the normal ones that people like to cite. In these small towns where all the people complain that the mom and pop stores close down after WM moves I just laugh. The only reason the mom and pops close down is because the people who are doing the complaining decided price was a bigger factor over service and went to WM. If you really want to rail on something, then rail on consumerism. WM is just a symptom of our societies current love of buying stuff for the least possible cost. Blame society and the people, not the company that provides them exactly what they want.

Wait, isn't the iPhone at WM only like $4 cheaper? ($195 vs $199) so wouldn't the iPad only be a few dollars cheaper then???

Would there really be a point to go buy one at Walmart vs an Apple Store or BestBuy?

Well I for one won't buy stuff from China . . . oh wait, nearly all Apple product's are made in China (surrounding area)!

Is this a joke?

If it is then I'm sorry for asking...subtle humor doesn't always translate too well over message boards.

Nope it's not a joke. Walmart runs smaller mom and pop stores out of buisness. There was an issue the class action suit that a group of women filed for wages. And they are just way too big. And for a long time walmart was not gay friendly while other large companies like IBM,Time Warner,Apple were and even offered domestic partner benefits.

This will NOT happen. iPad was deliberately launched only in stores where customers can get a great introduction to iPad from trained staff who can explain what it can do. Best Buy has an Apple employee in the booth. Wal-Mart is the farthest thing from that. Wal-Mart is not competent to sell any Apple products besides iPod.

yeah that is typical WMT but I hope they have enough sense to knock off more than $2. At the rate that Apple is going mainstream they ought to consider selling Macbook pros and Mac Pros at WMT too. Hmm... I can see it now, "honey what did you get from WMT?" A couple of bags of Doritos, a box of Tide, a bottle of yellowtail Pinot noir, a pair of $9.88 sneakers, and a Mac Pro workstation. Walmart!! Everyday low prices:D

That attitude has actually come close to driving me away from Macs. I looked long and hard for a comparable laptop to the MBP this time around and couldn't find anything that matched it overall. Maybe next time.

That's only for launch. When the iPad is ubiquitous like the iPhone they will sell them anywhere and everywhere. Heck, you can buy iPods out of vending machines now!

Yep. For example my partner was sick with some type of stomach issue and he wanted to Buy some Charcoal pills. The Walmart guy pointed him over to Kingsford Grill Charcoal

And those are the same people they want to sell iPad? Good luck with that
