Part rant, part to see if this aligns with any other people with similar experiences.

I own a 15 inch Macbook Pro and I went into the Apple Store in a mall yesterday asking for 2 tiny new screws for the bottom case of my macbook pro since they fell out. I had the MBP serviced about a year ago, and whoever serviced it did not tighten the screws very tight and so they were constantly loosening and I was constantly using my fingertips to retighten them before I bought a star shaped screw driver to fix it permanently. Anyways, during that time 2 screws fell out and they are small so I lost them. I went to Apple Store and I was told by the Apple Store employee at the front of the store that I would

1) Need to make a full genius bar reservation to just to see if it would even be possible for me to get 2 new screws

2) IF they had them in store, they might not even be free.

Seriously Apple? I bought a $2000+ laptop from you and you couldn't even just hand me 2 new tiny screws that cost a fraction of a cent each.

Little things like this leave a sour taste in the mouth of the customer. I'll probably just buy them on eBay and remember this in the future.

I get your frustration.

The mall Apple Store I worked at was not setup to handle special requests like what you wanted on a busy day like Saturday.

None of the sales folks at the front of the store were allowed in the Genius room period, much less to go rooting around for a part to hand to customer. It would take a tech person (Genius) to be able to do what you were asking for, and on a Saturday all of them would be on the floor handling reservations.

It definitely sucks to have to ask at all.

Yes, you need to make an appointment for anything but buying a computer.

We’ve all spent thousands of dollars on Macs, we can’t all be treated special.

Reminds me of my previous Honda... the screws fell out of the wheel well causing a separation from the plastic wheel well guard and the car - even though the car was <10,000 miles, the Honda dealership gave me the "too bad" shoulder shrug and I had to buy my own screws to replace the ones that fell out. I was upset but it didn't keep me from buying Honda cars (current).

I don't go to the Apple Store unless I have an appointment. I've only been to an Apple Store maybe 6 times in the last 6 years but I won't go unless I have an appointment. I buy online if I can help it.

I'd probably do this ^ like others mentioned.
