Apple has added a new "Insights" feature to the Wallet app in the second iOS 27 beta. Accessible by tapping the three dots in the upper right corner, Insights appears to let users add different financial accounts to monitor their spending.

A splash screen for the feature says users will be able to connect accounts to Wallet to see spending insights, recurring transactions, account balances, and more. The fine print says the following: "Your device is connected to your financial institution by an Apple wholly owned subsidiary, which fetches, categorizes, and standardizes your account information for display on your device. Your account information is not stored."

Tapping on the Continue button on the splash screen goes to the Add to Wallet interface with no new options available, so it does not appear to be functional at this time.

Apple has detailed transaction information for the Apple Card, but support for other cards and accounts has been limited. Apple did introduce a Connected Cards (later renamed Connected Accounts) feature in iOS 17.1, but it saw limited adoption. Discover implemented support and users could see their total card balance, Pay with Rewards, and transaction history, but Discover removed the functionality in early June and almost no other U.S. issuers ever used it. Several UK banks still have deeper integration with the Wallet app's Connected Accounts option.

It looks like Insights could be a successor to Connected Accounts that will work without card issuers specifically adding in support.

Update: We've heard from several users whose banks have offered Connected Accounts integration, and the new Insights feature in iOS 27 beta 2 is working for them, displaying spending highlights and details, so it's clear that Insights is indeed an evolution of the existing Connected Accounts feature.

This looks a lot like what Yodlee has done for years, and why when you log into most bank and financial service company websites now they offer the ability to ingress data from accounts at other institutions.

The base idea is sound—to bridge differences between independent institutions and allow easier aggregation. The problem is Yodlee is run by monkeys and has been accused of selling anonymized consumer financial data without consent.

The wording "...an Apple wholly owned subsidiary" is doing the heavy lifting here, which suggests they've created or partnered with someone to operate an alternative to Yodlee, but are still keeping it at arm's length.

Good to know about this development. Definitely expecting it to be available only in a few countries at launch and may remain so for a long time. Also not sure whether I would like to link bank accounts. However the idea is good.

No Thank You, don't need any 3rd party company including Apple to monitor my accounts and spendings ...
Walmart has been doing it for years with Onepay which they own. Ever purchase yoh make with your card they know where, when, and how much. Im sure Amazon has the same thing tide to their system as well as Paypal. Heck even your back makes a profile of all your transactions on your card even thou they arent third party.

too late, you likely have several financial agencies looking at your stuff. probably a few you've never even heard of.
sure, there's Equifax, Transunion and such, but those only see my monthly spending as a single number, not every single transaction ... and then there's MC/Visa etc but I have yet to receive any notification from those except maybe an occasional fraud warning

sure, and a good point to avoid Walmart pay system as an example ...
But this differs as it can collect data from every single institution that is in your wallet ...

I think the other commentator was thinking about the many if not vast majority of the merchants you do business with are making profiles of you or the fact that many institutions, including bank/card issuers, networks, etc share/sell information. You can make this a little harder for them with online purchases by making virtual numbers and changing them periodically.

You should also not link your card to any program if you are concerned about this kind of thing, as all these reward/discount programs share/sell info.

Had this in the UK since Connected Cards in Wallet here became a thing several years ago. Works as expected TBH. No security concerns as Apple don't get to see the data.

Its not working for me. When I press insights i take me to the screen to add a new card, and thats it

That is because UK are the pioneer for Open Banking API to access your information in different banks.
