Wallpaper for new IPAD - save as TIFF?

I'm making my first attempts at making some wallpaper for the new IPAD at 2048 x 2048 using Photoshop and a PDF template. My question is should I save as a TIFF file? Whats the best format to safe these as for use on the new IPAD?

PNG is lossless, why not use that?

It doesn't really matter, iTunes will re-encode the image anyway (and if it hasn't changed since the 3.x days it uses lossy encoding).
