wallpaper not sharp

If I select one of the Apple wallpapers. it looks very sharp and clear
but if i put up one of my own shots (which is pixels sharp and resized to 2048x2048) it looks like it resampled and compressed and looks soft

anyone know what i can do about this

I've had the same problem. If I have my picture on the desktop and set it (via "Services"), it shows up sharp. It always ends up reverting to the soft looking version. I haven't done enough testing to see what exactly makes it go soft.
