No, he's saying the phone comes stock on Verizon 3G with Straight Talk. You can add sims for VZW LTE or AT&T/Tmo HSPA/4G. If you want LTE you would have to do with it with VZW outside of Straight Talk. You can get HSPA/4G with Straight Talk if you use AT&T/TMo sims.

Remember the VZW version of the i5 works both as a CDMA and a GSM phone. It's unlocked for both by default.

cool thanks! Since the plan is contract free I just want to confirm that I can cancel the plan and then restart it at will?

Yes. That's true of all pre-paid plans. The only possible problem is how long they allow you to be offline before you lose your phone number. For example, with Virgin Mobile you can be offline for 90 days and keep your phone number. After 90 days they kill that number. You can still use the phone, after paying for more time, but you would have to get a new phone number.

I don't know Straight Talk's policy on this.

sweet thanks. That's not a problem I use google voice

Called Walmart this morning and asked which iPhone you get with it and she said it is indeed the Verizon model. I'm almost ready to go get this but the only thing holding me back is…
Will FaceTime work over cellular
Is there a new bundle setting that will make mms painless
Will visual voicemail work

Can someone confirm? If so then as they say here in my southern neck of the woods, "lets get dressed and go down to the walmarts."

MMS & Visual Voicemail

Can anyone confirm that Straight Talk MMS, Visual Voice Mail works right out of the box without jail breaking?

This deal isn't mentioned on either tracphone's website (especially since straight talk isn't tracphone) or straight talk's. So again, source please.

Wow, you're thick huh?

Straight Talk is most certainly Tracfone lol.

Also, @tehFish, see the deviceanywhere link above. There are instructions for using VVM and MMS. None of the instructions talk about the need for hacks or loopholes or 3rd party services so im assuming the answer is yes, they work natively.

So when I still go to the Straightalk site to buy a SIM card I still get this disclosure on this page.

http://www.straighttalk.com/controller.block

"If you have an iPhone and you would like to use MMS, you may need to make further changes to your iPhone in order to update your MMS settings. You may search online for more information."

And in the fine print here:

http://www.straighttalksim.com/support.php

" If you have an iPhone and you would like to use MMS, you will need to Jailbreak** your iPhone in order to update your MMS settings.
**Search "Jailbreak iPhone" on-line for more information."

These have been what's been holding me back.

I'm thick? You said the details were on Tracphone's website. Not a single one of those sites are tracphone.com (otherwise known as Tracphone's website). Straight talk, again, isn't Tracphone, but a partnership between Tracphone and Walmart. Co-ownership. I'll agree they operate under many of the same systems, but they're simply not the same company. Accuracy counts, especially on the internet where everyone hates everyone.

.

ST clearly does not maintain their website very well - those notes refer to the "Bring Your Own Phone" program, not the ST-sanctioned iPhone program. By all accounts, Visual Voicemail and MMS work OUT OF THE BOX on the ST-sanctioned/provided iPhone.

Yeah, you're pretty thick. You're going to have a hard time finding any details of a partnership between "Tracphone" (also known as KVH Industries, Inc.) and Walmart, because one doesn't exist... now a partnership between Tracfone (with an "F") and Walmart exists, and they've partnered to bring you "Straight Talk". And the "Deviceanywhere" site, which has "Tracfone" in its URL, is provided to Straight Talk customers on a frequent basis for device help. And Straight Talk isn't a company, its a brand, registered by... drum roll please... American Movil, the company that owns the TracFone Wireless, Inc.

Oh and then there's this:
Straight Talk is a service provided by TracFone Wireless Inc., America’s largest no-contract cell phone provider in the U.S., with over 21 million subscribers. TracFone Wireless is a subsidiary of América Móvil S.A.B. de C.V. ("AMX") (BMV: AMX; NYSE: AMX; Nasdaq: AMOV; LATIBEX: XAMXL).

Just purchased last night. It's all here - visual voicemail, mms, FaceTime over 3G, etc. It's no different than a contract iPhone but without the contract and a lot cheaper! Speed is also pretty decent. I'm getting about 2mbps.

I just contacted a ST representative on facebook, and they have confirmed that even though the ST iPhone is basically the prepaid Verizon iPhone in disguise, the SIM card tray is disabled/blocked.

:(

No GSM for you!

that is contrary to what others are reporting. Some people have confirmed using a vzw unlimited data sim and getting LTE. Perhaps that rep is ignorant or full of chyte?

Can you put up a video of this?

drop my iphone 4s with st in water today :(

any new info on the lte working with this?

a few posts from HOFO....

I work at my local WalMart connection center. I just put an active AT&T nano SIM in a Straight Talk iPhone 5. Everything (voice, MMS, and HSPA+ data) worked right out of the box. I haven't tested the BYOP SIM, as I don't want to cut mine down until I'm committed to buying.

Yes, same iPhone 5 so there is a sim slot. The phone is GSM unlocked. A Verizon sim card will get you LTE with Verizon service. T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon have been tested.

to clarify, they are reporting that it looks like you only get 3G data with the straight talk sim but if you drop an ATT sim in you get HSPA+ and if you drop a VERIZON LTE sim in you get LTE

sorry I'm being dense.. are you saying that you can get the ST/Walmart iPhone 5, buy straight talk "plan", and put a inactive Verizon LTE sim in it, and you get LTE?

Or are you just saying that the iphone 5 that you get is compatible with Verizon LTE and that in order to get verizon LTE service, one would have to get a live SIM associated with an active Verizon postpaid account?

I just contacted a different ST representative on facebook, and they have confirmed that the ST iPhone 5 cannot be used with other carriers via SIM card.

Basically, I can't believe anything until I see it for myself.

they are either lying or they dont know. It's already been confirmed to work with ATT, Verizon and TMo.

and yes the sim needs to be active on a working postpaid account to work

Apologies if this has been answered, and thank you in advance:

Can I buy a used Verizon iPhone and use it with Straight Talk on the VZW network?

Or do they only support BYOP for GSM phones, and only VZW network with the iPhones they sell?

(I ask because we have little AT&T coverage here.)
