AirDrop does fine here.

CBZ file? Comic Zeal is available as a receiver in the pop-up.
MKV? VLC takes the file gladly and is, again, available as receiver app in the pop-up on my iOS devices.

Note: I absolutely do *not* want to use the default app over e.g. VLC for longer videos... Also, what's with the auto-conversion? Converting video takes time if done well and I'd really like to pick the parameters. Doing it quickly means bad quality.

Apps are available for most of the file formats mentioned and iOS has so far been able to pick out apps as possible receivers in the pop-up - usually several to pick from for common formats.

Only plus I see is transfer speed? That's only for larger files though (though did transfer a 2+GB file over AirDrop once and 200+MB ones on a regular basis).

I guess I'm not in their demographic.

Edit: To be fair, removing the need for a wireless network might be reason enough for someone to get this app.

WALTR 2 is all about just being that "one drop-zone to eat it all give you the result".

You only have to use this one app. Instead of having a combination of VLC, Handbrake, Playxtreme, flac player, iTunes or more.

There's no quality loss, what you drop into W2 is what you get. For example, FLAC turns into ALAC on the fly and keeps all 100% quality. MKV turns in an M4V on the fly.

It's faster because it does the conversion/transcoding part on the fly, whereas every other solution will make you first convert it and then use iTunes to put on the device. Plus, you never worry about choosing proper settings for the conversion or "how do I make this format work". That's the whole idea of W2, it's supposed to be a user-friendly drop zone that magically eats anything you throw at it and puts it into the proper place. No need to do anything extra.

As a result, everything I wrote above allows WALTR 2 to save time. And if you want the fastest and easiest solution, then sure you can pay for it ;)

Just to preface my post: It seems like a nice and indeed user-friendly app and removing wifi/internet from the equation when out and about can be very useful. Wasn't my intention to trash something others find useful (and I did not complain about or mention the price, that's all fine :)).

Bolded: "On the fly" would depend what audio/video codecs the mkv-container contains and whether that codec is compatible with the m4v-container, though (tried to find a list of m4v-compatible codecs to no avail)? One does not really transcode "on the fly" (edit: depending on the input it's not an "instant" operation). You can however copy the streams as-is from one container to another, presuming the target container accepts the source codecs (remux). VLC etc referred to the apps I prefer on my iOS devices not my Mac. My pick for video fiddling/conversion on my Mac is ffmpeg CLI. :)

Anyway, I realise this app can be practical for many so don't mind me - my posts are usually too wordy anyway. :p

Due to the complexities of international laws regarding giveaways, only U.S. residents who are 18 years of age or older are eligible to enter.
Wonder what complex international laws prevent Macrumors from sending a PM or mail containing a software key to the winners outside of the us.

Seems like a well-designed app with a useful purpose, but that promo video kept me asking "is this thing real or is this guy making fun of iOS?" The whole part about supporting iPods back to the very first one from 2001 gave me pause... I guess the 10 people with one of those would find this useful. :)

Aside — I do miss the feel of that fourth-generation Click-Wheel. That perfect rubbery texture, high level of responsiveness on the screen... it was a very satisfying interface.

Been a long time user of the first version and love the new version. I had a lot of video files that were in NUMEROUS formats (avi, mkv etc) and I had to use other software to convert them THEN use MetaMovie / MetaTV to get all the tags and artwork right and then upload. With the new Waltr you just drag the files over and it converts, tags, and gives artwork all at once to the device. THEN I use iMazing to then drag my videos back to my mac and NAS library. Funny ... using my iPhone / Waltr to be be conversion tool! Great product.

"Walter has been completely redesigned using low-level programming languages like C. It enables a new level of reliability and stability which was never possible before"

They are praising C code for reliability and stability? And that wasn’t possible before? Because C is so young, or what?

Anyone know of anything like this for Windows? I'd buy it in a heartbeat for my mother. Although, if Windows 10 doesn't start behaving better for her, she'll be using a Mac soon, which will render the issue moot.

I got WALTR 1 as part of a bundle and use it from time to time, it works great. the only problem is that iOS sees a file that it didn't put there and deletes it on a sync.

Is this fixed in W2?

I'm having copying audiobooks to my iPad and iPhone. the files go into music and not iBooks. iTunes sees the files as audiobooks but Waltr 2 sees them as music. Anyone else having this problem?

Is there any control over where things go (like some kind of prefs or settings)? I'm all about simplicity (of the overall UI), but that's not so good if it doesn't do the right thing, or the thing I want... especially for less popular file formats.

Can someone explain to me why I should stop using AirDrop to transfer my files wirelessly from my Mac to my iPhone and instead pay $39,95 for an app which does the same?

Well, I currently use various apps for the process, so if this worked well, it would simplify things. But, other members of the family might benefit from a simple drag and drop, especially with Apple ruining most of the iApps on the Mac side. I'm currently looking to replace Photos, iTunes, etc. If we do that, then we'll need a nice way to get files onto our iOS devices.

I doesn't support image file formats! How can I easily transfer image files to my iPhone?

Oh, that might be a no-go then. I thought it sounded like it supported pretty much any file format. ???

I'm guessing because the previous version wasn't built in C?

I just bought it and it works like a charm!
Thank you Softorino!

And I think perhaps it was a bit expensive
, but it is clearly worth it for me as it was to much of a hassle before with handbrake , adding subtitles , trying the unstable Airdrop and so on

And it did the .mkv conversion so fast! Me like!

ps. I think the Video fas funny (or awesome and the best video made of Waltr 2 ever)
