Waning interest, if any, could also easily be described to the fact that the next iPhone will be the 7th one (no matter how good, the 7th is less special than the 2nd or 3rd) and that the smartphone boom has passed its prime. Smartphones have been commoditized.

Enough of these doomsday threads already.

Sorry to say, it won't happen. Some people just can't let it go, and have to post about doomsday, Apple is boring, where is the 4.5 inch phone, and so on. Apple is apple and they will do what Apple has done since time, and memorial. They must live a boring life talking about this, and don't get out much or if they do, they are on the park bench texting there buddies sitting right next to each other, and compare smartphones. :D

waning interest

Yes there is waning interest in the next iPhone release. Compared to the upcoming HTC ONe and Samsungs Galaxy, the iPhone 5s will be a silly product for anyone to purchase. Same minimum screen size, software that sucks and same design. Where is the WOW of Apple past? Probably just resting on their laurels from years ago. How sad.

----------

Agreed. Apple will still sell millions of the next iPhone.

Who is kidding who? Who lives in a closet? The iPhone 5s will be a ridiculous release and an embarrassment to the company and Apple lovers everywhere. But hey, thats the kind of company they have become. Tired, boring and predictable. Good one Apple.:D

Thanks for your balanced and considered opinion. Given that we don't know what the 5S will be or what iOS 7 will be, why embarrass yourself with such a sweeping, unfounded and ill-informed statement? I bought the 5 and returned it because it didn't do LTE on the Uk network I'm subscribed to and didn't seem like a worthwhile enough upgrade at the time. I returned it at no cost after 2 weeks. Who else allows you to do that? Personally I'm looking forward to the 5S and iOs 7. It will be much faster than my 4.

Strangely enough, many people including my family, friends and colleagues want a phone that they can rely on, works straight out of the box and is easy to use. I like the fact that my phone integrates with my other Apple hardware seamlessly and that I can pop into my local Apple store or even make an appointment with a Genius when visiting London at the beginning of the month to get my back plate on my 4 replaced.

The excitement and anticipation for the next iPhone just isn't what it used to be. Is this because people are satisfied with what they have or is it because they know the improvements they really want (bigger screen, different form factor) aren't likely to happen until the generation after next?

Agreed. All it's goin to be is an iPhone 5 with a faster processor and better camera.

Real snooze.

Umm, completely new design last year? I guess we can't all understand these things.

Show me a top tier Android with a 3.5-4 inch screen and I'll be interested. Buy no, they all have predictable, ridiculous, embarrassingly large screens.

See how this works?

I must admit I have had every iphone since the start. I also have all their other latest products. However I want some thing new to justify my next £550. I want something which is going to be a new toy to play and discover. I fear the iPhone will be just another upgrade.

I utilise my iMac, iPhone, iPad and even PC to seamlessly have all the common data, photos and documents available. I would like to try the Google Nexus for a year until the iPhone really has a real update, but not sure if its non IOS firmware will cause all sorts of workflow issues for me. Or maybe I buy it and use it as my new toy to discover for a while

I need something new and I need it now :)

I will be selling my iP5 in time to get the iP5s, mostly because I will be skipping the iP6 and keeping with the "S" models to get the units with the kinks worked out and whatever Apple spec bumps. Given the rumored dates for the iP5S my iP5 will only be 6 months old and still have 18 mos. of AppleCare+ left for the next buyer.

Good plan. Think most people will be doing that. I for one will be doing it anyway.

Can you transfer your AppleCare+ to your new iPhone 5 S?

I have never had an "S" model.

I am highly considering selling my iPhone 5 for the S model.

I could probably get a pretty penny for it too. Enough to.

There really isn't much more that can be done with mobile phones in the current format of them. It requires a major leap of technology and design for the next iteration to come to fruition.

ALL companies are just refining their products now with each release of the next years model, no major innovation from anyone, maybe a few gimmicks here and there, but no real innovation on any companies behalf.

Hardly a doomsday thread. The question is about waning interest which isn't even close to doomsday

True. However, the OP starts off by saying that there is waning interest in the next iPhone without providing any proof of that statement. So it is to be expected that he will take some grief about it.

S4 is bomb. 5 inch screen. Personally too big tho

Find a hobby instead.

I can't wait for the 5S! My contract expires on my HTC Evo 3D beginning of May and I hope my piece of crap Android phone will last me long enough until the next iPhone comes out. It has hardware issues and I'm losing my patience. I dont really want to get the 5 since the 5s is coming soon. I'll finally have the imac-ipad-iphone trifecta :)

Probably only after people realize that they don't need a new phone every couple years.

I'm still using my iPhone 3GS. Buying it was a revolution for me - my first smartphone, and one as great as the iPhone. I haven't upgraded since then because I have no reason to - I have an iPad 3 with retina display, and all other "innovations" in the iPhone have been mindless gimmicks (hi Siri!) or actual downgrades (Maps app).

It's not a matter of having a revolution every 6 months - there has been no revolution since the original iPhone, other than maybe the retina display. Everything else has been at most slow evolution.

3GS? Holy **** you're long overdue for an upgrade.. Not a bad phone mind you, the phone felt good in the hand, but even with spec bumps being minor at each release, 3GS is a little long in the tooth now...

I have no plans to upgrade from my iPhone 4, so you could say my interest has waned.

Even though people here always make light of it, a bigger screen would be a compelling reason to upgrade for me. If there is no option for a bigger screen iPhone when I am ready to upgrade, I will go elsewhere.

It really depends on your use case. Both my wife and a friend of mine still use the 3GS daily and have no issues. It is a solid phone.
