Do you know for a fact that these work? I've been reading about this very product on other forums and it appears that this won't work without drivers on the Apple OSX side. I'd love for this to be true, but so far it appears that this is a no-go...but thanks for the thought.
[I've also researched and found that this is for a network cable tester, but the idea of firewire over ethernet would require drivers, no?]
I've seen a lot of talk about this, but no, I haven't tested or thoroughly investigated this, as I have no need for it, since I have two FW ports on my MBP. However, the concept is not beyond reason, since the IEEE 1394 interface standard includes this possibility.

Or, you could spend $15 on one of these, to do the same thing.

Or you can stop posting nonsense.

midiotlv is right on the money (in more sense than one). This is a huge throwback for musicians and video enthusiasts, and I'm completely flabbergasted by the move. I didn't see it coming at all.

I was also considering a MB, but I'll never buy the overpriced MBP. That money is potentially a new instrument, new software, or money that my account saving up for a RED-camera could need.

Basically, Apple doesn't seem to understand a fundamental fact. Artists seldomly have a lot of money. A select few has, but they are in a clear minority. I seem to remember Apple being proud of serving creative people hardware and software suited to their needs. Making a MB without a FW port is like saying they suddenly don't give a **** about artists. Like mid says, it's a sad day for musicians and film/video producers.

All the standard opens for is transfer over TP. It has nothing to do with communication between NIC's and devices based on FW. What a cable or a plug looks like has nothing to do with what goes on inside them.

The way I see it is. The new Macbook is missing a high speed port. In future they will have USB3, in the past they had Firewire.
I don't use FW now but as data becomes larger a high speed port will be nearly essential. I don't want to buy a Macbook now and have to upgrade in 12-18 months just for a high speed port.
