after all I read now and especially the thread in the apple forum above I decided not to buy an iPod

Damn - I wanted one so much. But if I can't use it as expected - it's better not to get one and then be angry about apple.

Thanks - you helped me a lot. Even if the answers are not as I hopped.

I think you are making a mistake. My iPod is my favorite gadget that I ever purchased (and I have purchased many). Why don't you just buy it from a reputable dealer that you can return it to within 30 days for a refund?

Sure - once I will get one. But for the moment I am lucky with my Creative Muvo.

Runned today the first time with it and I had absolutly no problems. Really what I wanted and its so small, and much cheaper.

Of course - the ipod is more than just a player. Adress and calendar inside as well. Maybe I buy a Palm in addition.

Not only that, but it can actually hold more than 30 songs! Can you believe that?? I mean, 30 is definitely more than ANYONE will EVER need to listen to at one sitting... why bother carrying around 7500 when you can carry 30? Right? Oh, and let's not forget that display which you can actually read what's displayed, eh? I mean, my gosh, who the heck would need to smoothly browse through all their songs when you can listen to each and every one, even the ones you don't want to listen to, until you can finally listen to the one you do want to listen to?

Congrats on getting what you wanted.

CmdrLaForge got what worked best for him, no moving parts being the most important thing. It all makes sense. Plus, are there more than 30 versions of 'Eye of the Tiger' ? :D

Still, I run and workout with mine all the time with a Marware Sportsuite case. Never skips, never crashes. I just think he should have given it a try.

Well the point is: its not exactly what I wanted. I wanted an iPod. And I still want one. But I want and need something that makes no problems at all while I am running. I was really disappointed to hear all that people blaming Apple that it really does not work very well while running. Espacially the thread on the Apple page was clear and some posts just said a "WORD OF WARNING"

For me another belt is not an option because I am running long distance (in training for a marathon) and I have my belts where I can carry my water with me.

OK. Maybe I should have tried the iPod. The point is: I need something now. And I will definitly buy an iPod. Just not now.

Cheers

iPod skipping and crashing while running

I am having very poor performance from
the new Rev.3 ipod 30gig that I bought
for running.

It reboots (crashes) every 15 to 30 minutes while running. (I usually run
4-14 miles depending on the day.)

I asked specifically if you could run with
the ipod at the store and the sales guy
said yes. I should have been warned by
him saying that he ran on a treadmill.

Out in the real world it is not working.

It crashed so hard today that I could not
reset it.

I took it back to the apple store and the
staff said that they would test it. I asked
if testing it included running but no. Testing involved someone using the iPod
while they stocked.

If you are thinking about using an iPod for running or marathons you should be warry. I have a fear that I will end up with a $500 paper weight.

Not Great for Running

I bought a new 3G 10GB iPod and decided to take it on an 8 mile run today. As most have posted, it locked up frequently to the point of having to be shut off and restarted. I was carying it in a padded waist pack designed for running.

When it comes to walking and other activities, it is a great little device!!

I guess I need to investigate an armband or move back to my Nomad MuVo for the marathon training:-(

I use an MuVo 128MByte Stick now for running. While running it works very well. Next sunday I will run a marathon and use the MuVo.
