In reality there are many more than two (not necessarily contrasting) sides to consider.

I meant two sides in this sense:
1) Going to college.
2) Not going to college.

And each is the very opposite of the other.

C is generally considered to be some kind of "baseline", or language which teaches you the low-level fundamentals. That said, I am a big fan of Google Go -- it is definitely worth checking out.
