I can't find a real clear answer I have perian on my atv and so far perfer avi to handbrakes settings. Is there a codec better than xvid? Thanks for your help!

Not if you want to convert to avi, xvid is the best solution. For some of the best xvid encodes go download a program called AutoGK if you have a PC, it converts to xvid with the best results

Use Handbrake, best all-in-one converter in existence.

Will it be equal to 720P?

I'm not sure that's a meaningful question. 720P refers to a resolution. There's 720P content that looks like crap, and 720P content that looks good.

You asked if there was a better codec than Xvid, and I answered "H.264". That was a bit of a tease, as that's the codec that Handbrake uses.

H.264 is one of the codecs used on Blu-Ray discs.

As long as it dosent make blurry boxs in the video I'm happy all handbrake jobs I do turn out bad even on the set atv settings.
