WHat would be a good card (<150) to upgrade to from an 8800gt? FWIW, my PS is 500W and my cpu is a q6600

At that price range… either a 6850 or a 550 Ti are your highest-end options. Though with such an old CPU you might also be CPU-bound, depending on the game. I think in your case I'd go with the 6850.

You might be able to swing a used 560 TI as well, which would dominate its price/performance bracket.

Good to hear, I'll check into those cards. Is ATI still considered ahead of Nvidia? I know when I got the 8800gt, it was Nvidia that was considered on top of the game and last I heard it was ATI that was seeing the massive breakthroughs

Also, my cpu may be a bottleneck?! really? dang lol

AMD has an advantage with price/performance in the midrange.
The Q6600 has very much OC potential, and since many games doesn't utilize more than two threads you'll want to maximize the clock frequency.
If you manage to OC it to like 3.0-3.2GHz I'll be good for a year or two more.

I got a E8500 running at 3.67GHz and to be honest there are very few games that are bottlenecked
