Want to use Iphone 3gs in australia

I am not very tech savvy but would like to use my 3GS version 4.3.5 in with a SIMS card purchased in Australia.
Called AT&T and was refused unlock code even with fulfilled contract

Can you please help me? I will not have access to my computer there.

two options sell your 3gs buy one there that's of course if you moved. or install Ipad baseband 6.15 1st you would have to jailbreak it and install ipad baseband you will loose gps and a few other things. no other option except selling it.. sucks att won't unlock they are among the worst when it comesto that.

Thanks but that site says do not follow, it is outdated or some such.
I am not moving there only going on extended vacation I will be returning to the states so I really don't want to sell my phone
