I kid you not (and just after I made a cultural reference quip about it in PRSI nonetheless). Russell Brand has convinced Warners to bring Harold Meaker, Timothy Claypole, Nadia Popov et. al to the big screen. Brand himself is going to take the role of original series character Fred Mumford, who decides after his own death to start a kissogram-style ghost rental service. No other casting decisions have yet been announced.

Americans are probably completely unfamiliar with the series, and most young Brits won't remember it either, but it was sort of like a high-camp panto that ran on BBC One for 8 years in the late 70s/early 80s. Each ghost had certain powers and weaknesses and in general the humour came from elaborate slapstick-laden scripts that culminated in a single corny punchline. Sometimes it was funny, other times it was rubbish, but if done right it's just the sort of nonsense the world needs right now to cheer it up a bit :)

This is possibly the best news of the year.

Naturally, the casting of Timothy Claypole will be key to the success of the film.
