It seems that someone has been getting email information from macupdate profiles.

When I registered a long time ago I have no recollection that there was an option to "make private" my personal information.

Macupdate has promptly, to their credit, told me to check my profile and indeed my email and name was marked as visible.

I have informed them that I consider the sensible way to do these things is to make things hidden by default. I do not, however, recall that this was the same option given to me upon sign up but I have no evidence to back this up.

But in the last few days a few IT related spams have been received.

I am not suggesting that Macupdate is doing any spamming here. But you might want to check your registration option.

(Mods apologies if this in the wrong subfolder.. couldn't see where it would fit).

We've also added a TODO in our project management system to make the default value "off" for users.
